Topic Dog Boards / Health / Crusty lips ?
- By Banger [gb] Date 21.04.02 23:32 UTC
Hmm Max has crusty and red looking lips - he's going to the vet tomorrow - but anyone got any ideas ?
- By Kerioak Date 22.04.02 07:24 UTC
Glue sniffing? Could explain a lot of his problems!

~

If it has appeared suddenly I would suspect an allergy to something - do you have any new plants in the garden, chemicals on anything he has had in his mouth etc

LOL@Christine :D
- By Banger [gb] Date 22.04.02 11:46 UTC
Nah we've managed to wean him off the glue but he is still partial to the odd line of coke :rolleyes:

But seriously - we dont have any new plants but that doesn't mean he hasn't found one that he's allergic too. There are also little red spots around his mouth too - maybe its teenage acne :p
- By Leigh [us] Date 22.04.02 12:04 UTC
Do you mean inside of his mouth? It does sound like he has eaten something :-)
- By Banger [gb] Date 22.04.02 12:12 UTC
No I mean around the outside of his mouth - little red spots around the corners of his mouth and a bit further back in his fur too.

tell him to go easy on the lipstick and put vaseline on first Lol

Apparently there is a program on the TV tonight, C4 10.35pm "The Truth About Gay Animals " :p
- By patricia [gb] Date 22.04.02 12:20 UTC
Ha Ha, must make Zac watch that then .Hope Max is better now sounds like an allergy
to me heard that one before ?
- By digger [gb] Date 22.04.02 12:21 UTC
Could also be a fungal infection (like thrush - those who are Mum's will know what I mean ;-))
- By hugen [gb] Date 22.04.02 13:18 UTC
A cross-dressing GSD with thrush. Now I've heard it all :)
- By patricia [gb] Date 22.04.02 14:01 UTC
Hugen that is so funny :) :) :) I'm thinking that would scare the burglars ha ha
- By Kerioak Date 22.04.02 16:03 UTC
Don't you mean a cross-dressing, coke sniffing GSD with thrush? :-)
~~

Not been eating toads has he?

Christine
- By hugen [gb] Date 22.04.02 16:04 UTC
I thought you had to lick the toads ? Seriously do dogs eat toads and get ill ?
- By Kerioak Date 22.04.02 16:11 UTC
I read a lot but don't always remember where or the details but having seen a couple of toads squirt fluid from their rear ends last weekend - and seeming to remember that there is something irritant in this I just wondered.

Christine
PS Does licking toads equate to kissing frogs to see if they turn into princes?
- By Banger [gb] Date 22.04.02 16:19 UTC
or Princesses lets not be sexist :rolleyes:

Well I'm really proud of Max he only bit the vet once - hanging on to his ankle for ONLY five minutes - just kidding he had his muzzle on all the time :rolleyes:

Seriously he was very well behaved - he didn't even bark when the vet emptied his anal glands - and his lip condition is Dermatitus - so he has a lovely becoming white lipstick to wear two times a day and anti-biotics.

He also let the vets assistant stroke him after I had felt her knee to show she wasn't anyone to be frightened of :d
- By Kerioak Date 22.04.02 16:22 UTC
Just don't touch my knee or Max may learn that I AM someone to be afraid of ! :-)

~~~~~~
Did the vet have any idea what caused the dermatitis?
Christine
- By Banger [gb] Date 22.04.02 16:25 UTC
Hehehehehe Christine ;)
Unfortunatley the vet said some dogs are prone to it without a reason and we will have to keep an eye on it because once it has shown itself it may re-occur.
- By hugen [gb] Date 22.04.02 16:27 UTC
Licking toads is something to do with a halluciogenic (where's a spell checker when you need one) effect, so I'm told. Has to be a certain type of toad so don't all rush out to the nearest pond. Don't think we have any in the UK.
Christine, toads squirting liquid ! Under what circumstances did you see that ? This has to be the most bizarre thread ever :)
Banger, you started all this, how is Max? Is his mouth any better ?
PS you replied while I was trying to spell halluthingy. Glad he's OK.
- By Kerioak Date 22.04.02 16:30 UTC
They were under a log in a flowerbed that was being dug over - went to pick them up to move them and they squirted - perhaps these particular two were related to skunks although I did not notice any particular smell
Thanks for info. Yet another thing to steer clear of in the garden then.
- By Kash [gb] Date 22.04.02 16:33 UTC
I heard that too Hugen about the hallu-whatever:D
- By hugen [gb] Date 22.04.02 16:37 UTC
"Don't try this at home children" :) Look at the above link on toads. I have a feeling that you could get an answer to any question on this board!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 23.04.02 16:40 UTC
easier to say 'makes you imagine you see things'!!
- By SaraW [gb] Date 22.04.02 16:31 UTC
there is a toad that if you lick it affects you the same way as LSD or something along those lines (I can't spell hallucinagenic :P).
Sara - with a garden full of licked frogs (doesn't work the same by the way and non turned into Princes lol)
hey snap Hugen LOL
