I have two 10 month old japanese Akita's who have been fed Hill's Large Breed Natures best Puppy food but over the last couple of weeks one of them doesn't seem to be enjoying it anymore, I have thought about going onto the adult food to see if he likes this better or should I try a different brand altogether? I have been supplimenting his food with meat, chicken, rice and pasta for the last couple of weeks but I am not too sure if this is giving him all the goodness he needs.

What do you mean by supplimenting? If you are offering these as alternatives then its not really suprising hes not eating the complete....like offering a child the choice of a bar of chocolate or meat and 3 veg!
If you want to stick to a complete then I would suggest that maybe you offer ONLY complete for a while.By changing feeds you may find you make him worse and although he may eat the new food for a while he may well decide he 'needs a change' again a few weeks down the line and then a pattern of behaviour is forming.
If you like the idea of feeding meat, chicken etc have you thought about feeding barf? Its not that hard and I find it works out much cheaper that feeding a complete diet...but I understand its not for everyone

I had no choice but to offer him chicken and stuff because he had hardly eaten for over a week and I was getting worried about him. I don't really know anything about the barf diet but I will certainly look into it.

I understand how you feel...I had a dog who was the same up until a couple of weeks ago. It is soooo hard to watch a dog not eat and soooo tempting to offer anything and everything just to get something in his belly!! My boy is now 2 1/2 years old and has been fussy since he was about 12 months. He would ask for his food and then refuse to eat..he would eat maybe once every 3 days .He had lost his 'sparkle' and is lacking in body(although he does carry a good coat). He is now putting on weight and is happier in himself but the method I used to get him to eat is not easy and I wouldn't recommend or suggest it when there are other things worth a try.
Most dogs can't resist BARF...and its not that hard to do although a bit of extra freezer space is an advantage. My dogs have any kind of meat and offal I can get my hands on,with a good proportion of it being raw meaty bones eg chicken carcasses/wings,pigs trotters, ribs etc. They also get pulped veg in small quantities mixed with the meat(couple of times a week). They also get eggs and natural yoghout(sp???)
You could also try malted kelp tablets....some people swear by them..I found they worked to a degree.

Thanks for that it is very helpful. I have spent the morning researching the BARF diet and I am considering giving it a go. Both my dogs are boys and the other one is still eating fine but Akira really isn't himself at all, I have made am appointment for the vets for tonight for a check up. I am sure that Akira will like the BARF diet because he loves meat and adores bones so I am goin to get myself a book and give it a go. Thank-you again for you helpful advise.

There are some very good web sites that might be worth a look.Try putting barf into a search engine. I buy the bulk of my feed from www.landywoodpetfoods.co.uk and they have some useful info on the site aswell. This might just give you an idea on cost etc. Try asking round your local butchers aswell for chicken stock carcasses. These are desposed of as waste and some butchers will give then to you or charge just a nominal fee.I get a large box once a month from a local butcher for free.

I believe your dog is only a pup....I would suggest you try all other alternatives first. How long do you leave your pups food down for? Does he have treats between meals? Do you chop and change his food?
