I was just wondering, will a 'pack' of dogs generally get on better than a 'pack' of bitches would!??

Never had an all bitch or all male pack. It's always been mixed entire males and females with an occassional dog or bitch neutered for medical reasons. Maybe it's a breed thing, but the overall boss is almost always a bitch - I've only known one male that was leader and good at the job.
If two males fall out they are usually friends again before the blood is dry. If two bitches take a really serious dislike the only option (IMHO) is to rehome one - BUT a true 'bitch spite' is rare and I've only known of one example.
I've never had a dog pack, only a bitches one. I had to re-home one of the bitches before 2 of them killed one another. I really didn't want to do it, but when you don't know if you are coming home to a dead dog it's the best thing to do. I still have 2 bitches, aunt and niece, and they get on alright, most of the time.
I have friends who have more than 1 male dog and they rarely have a bad word to say to one another. In hindsight I think I would keep males rather than females :D
I have 4 boys (sometimes 6 if I've got my sister's two!) and aside from the normal play fighting and rough and tumble, I can say that I could count on one hand the number of times I've had to step in during any squabbles. But that's just my experience, I don't think you could ever generalise it. :)

I've got a mixed pack two neutered bitches ( for medical reasons) two entire bitches and two entire dogs - my 'top dog' is a bitch and holds things together pretty well - my boys love each other and will play for hours the girls are a little more respectful towards each other apart from my two 'oldies' who are mum and daughter and are totally inseperable. It's chaotic at times but great fun ! :-D
I have 2 males (hardly a pack, I know !) and they get on fine. I can't even say which one is top dog - it seems to vary from day to day. In almost 30 years of dog ownership I've never kept bitches but this is more because I think they suffer from fewer ailments than males.

I've currently got 6 bitches;
Labs (7yrs, 5 yrs, 3yrs & 6 month pup)
Jack Russell (7yrs)
Springer (5 months)
There are no squabbles and no particular pecking order other than me being in charge. ;-) As Joyce says, 'top dog' can vary with the situation;
The JR would take precedence over a food item.
The 5 year old lab during rough play and getting the best spot in a dog bed due to her size and strength (but shes too kind to know it!).
The 3 year old lab with strange dogs or in a guarding situation, as she is the only one with much of a protective instinct.
The 5 month springer when it comes to instigating havoc and destruction!
Other labradors have integrated with no problem while staying with me, however working cockers seem to want to rule the world!
