Lovely day out, and so many dogs, it can only be good that so many are showing now, We are leaving for Darlington in the morning, and the back down for the Rare breeds seminar on Sunday at Birmingham, so I will not be back until Monday

Good luck at Darlington, at the moment I am not taking George as he has come up lame. If that changes I may see you there, who knows?

In case anyone is thinking of getting their dog tested for von Willebrands Disease (vWD) please check first to see if there is a DNA test available for their breed.  The Elysa test is not generally conclusive and the results are done on a percentage basis which can change depending on the physical status of the dog (in season, excited, calm, ill) etc.

The DNA test is absolute (in 99.8%) of cases I understand.  The dog is either Clear - has two normal copies of the gene, Carrier, has one normal copy and one defective copy, or Affected and has two affected copies of the gene.

New breeds are being added to the DNA list all the time as the individual breed tests are being developed.

It is also possible to get the Kennel Club to set up a breed testing scheme - similar to that for Hips, Eyes and Clad in Setters, as we have done this with Dobermanns.
