Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / KC adding affix or not?
- By Guest [gb] Date 14.09.04 15:16 UTC
I was looking through the BRS and something caught my eye and I was hoping someone could explain it to me.

I noticed (in my breed) that several litters were registered by 'puppy farmers' who had no affix (or if they do have an affix it wasn't added to these particular litters). Some of these litters had Kenmilfore before the names and some didn't. I know that the KC add their own affix when someone doesn't have one but from looking at the BRS it would seem that it's only added to some litters, not all. Does anyone know how it is decided what litters the generic KC affix is added to? Also, do the KC register any colour that is written down on the registration certificate? As I came across a litter that had the colour listed as 'Wolf' This is not a registered colour in the breed.

Kenmilfore..........I think is for 2004,  Kenmiltri.........2003,  I think I'm right in saying that the kc will add these if you don't name the pups yourself, you can still name the pups in your litters even if you don't have an affix, hence the reason why some have/haven't the kenmilfore..............I hope that makes sense..........lol

so in short, if the kc name your litter they will add the kenmil____ affix
if you name the litter yourself without an affix, then they will just have the name you give (without the kc affix)

Hi Guest

You could describe a dog as pink with blue spots and it is quite possible it will be registered as such, unfortunately the KC do not insist on the colour descriptions as being those in the standards, although I beleive some breeds now have non-standard colour against some of them.

I understand Ken****/Kenmil**** is used when the breeders have not put an alternative name nor ticked the box to say they wish to choose an alternative name if the one they have picked is not available.

I am sure I saw somewhere that they were going to start charging extra for this.

Hi Kerioak -  You are right about the Non-Standard colour with regard to registrations.  Yellow Flatcoats are now registered as 'Non-Standard' and this appears on the registration certificate.

Would only add that not all non-affix litters are bred by puppy farmers. I have a very nice bitch here at home who was bred from first class lines by someone who didn't have an affix because he knew he would only breed one litter. But he did everything else right - the bitch is excellent, he took wide advice before choosing the stud dog (who was not the boy next door). The pups were raised in the pink, again with constant advice from more experienced breeders. The end result was that the breeder got what he wanted - a pup from a much loved bitch - one of her brothers has done well and thrown a couple of good litters and I'm  pleased enough with the litter I took from my girl that I'll probably take aother from her to a different but closely related stud.
