Hello,

Can anyone give me advice on which judges to enter under??  I have  an imported bitch which is described as the typical american show dog.  After speaking to alot of people in the breed I have been worned not to enter under just anyone, I have to select my judges wisely if I want to win.  Who are these judges and how do I go about getting a schedule of shows for next year?

Can someone explain why I have to enter under certain judges and not all if I want to place or even win???  I have researched the breed for several months now and have a copy of the breed standard,  My dogs is 21 inches and is a great example of the breed  and she has been called stumpy but according to the standard she is the perfect height.  Why do so many people in the breed dislike imported sibes, I have come up against alot of negative feedback about  bringing a dog into the country and I really do not understand why.

So please all you nice people out there give me some good and positive feed back for a change instead of all the horrid things that I have heard.  My dog is beautiful, so why cant everyone see this?  I would not dream of critising anyone elses dog or taking a dislike to it because it was brought in from America.

As in a lot of breeds the USA dogs are different to the UK ones. They tend to be 'showier' whereas in the  UK people would like to think that we try to keep breeding dogs which can complete the purpose they were intended to do.
If your dog has been descibed as 'dumpy' then UK judges are unlikely to place her since they would judge that she would be unsuitable to do the job she was bred for...
She may be the correct height for the standard but this does not mean she has correct proportions....she could be short on the leg(for which she may have been called dumpy) and hence incorrect in the eyes of our judges over here.

Most of the breed specialist judges in this country work their dogs too, and are very unlikely to place an American bred show dog, as while they look pretty and fluffy, they are physically unable to do the job for which they were bred. However, pretty and fluffy seems to count for a lot under the less enlightened all rounders, so best to enter under those only!

P.S., everyone can fit their pet dog to the breed standard, it takes years of observation to see a really good dog from an average one. If you want to see REAL sibes working, go along to a few rallies, you'll soon see the difference between a correct Sibe and a fluffy, and hopefully begin to appreciate why they are bred that way.

have a look here
breed types
and hopefully you will begin to understand why breed specialist will place a standard fitting siberian over showlines.
i have both types (belgian bred dog from pure USA/Canadian show lines and english bred dual purpose dogs) and have worked them both in harness.  the belgian dog with his pedigree of show champions has neither the construction, movement or attitude to perform adaquately in harness.  a siberian is fundamentaly a WORKING SLED dog and sadly many siberians, like my show dog, are unable to perform this job due to several deviances from the breed standard, such as heavy bone, short back, lack of angulation and shorter leg length all faults which mean the dog is unable to peform its original function.  this is why breed specialist would not put them up as they simply do not meet the breed standard,
