Gyp my parson Russell has been very odd, she has started digging in the garden, crying at night (all night!) following me round and being restless, her tummy feels very hot and she is ravenous. She has also weed in her bed and behind the sofa. (why?) At 1.30 this morning hse was ecstatic and running round in mad circles, but she did not want to go out for a wee or go back in her bed. Luckily the neigbours are away! She has been barking as well as whining and she carried on most of the night . Her season was the end of june beginning of july and we dont think she has been got at. usually she grumbles at being put in her bed and then barks at about 6.30 to be let upstairs or out in the garden. We both suffer from depression and anxiety and are not coping well with such a restless dog. She has been jumping about and playing very well and does not seem distressed (except at night!!) but she is very fidgety. She is our first dog and is 4 years old.

If she was my dog, I'd take her to the vet, whilst it could be a phantom, it could also be a condition called pyometria, which is an infection in the uterus, and needs urgent treatment with at least anti biotics, and possible surgery.
I agree with Digger, I would get her checked by the vet to be on the safe side. If there is something wrong then the sooner it's sorted out the better and if not then at least it will put your minds at rest. :)
Kath.
Thank you Digger and Kath, have taken her to the vet, she has a normal temperature and heartbeat, no signs of real or phantom pregnancy, he says it is separation anxiety about being put in her crate at night. This is bizarre as she was anxious when we first got her, but has been fine until this tuesday and we have not had any sleep since! My neighbours are back soon and I hope to god she settles. She was lively as a cricket at 1.30am the other day- play bowing and wagging like crazy, until we put her back in her bed. Is there such a thing as dog sleeping tablets? Our house is small and I do not know if putting her crate in the kitchen so we can't hear her would help. The vet said to ignore her totally at night, and to take her back for a blood test in 5 days if she is still bad. I bet vets dont live in terrraced houses! This forum is very helpful, and most dog people I have met are very freindly too! I will call the breeder I got her from too.

Sep anxiety wouldn't make her tummy feel hot (although dogs do tend to have warm tummys, as it's one way of losing excess heat).. Did anything differet happen on Tuesday? Do you have children that have just gone back to school?
no, I have had time off work with abcessed teeth and stress/depression. but that was the 31st I went back and she started playing up on the 7th. Unless it was that she came on the bed with me while i was ill. She is allowed in on the bed first thing, but not otherwise. I think now that she has got livelier with the colder weather and is just playing up. She won't walk for my husband either, she sticks all 4 legs out and sits down! He let her lurk behind the sofa in the back bedroom the other night ( to stop her whining!) so I got out and hoofed her back downstairs and shouted at her. Silence ensued for 2 hours only whereupon she started again! I have bought some herbal calm tincture, but that has no discernible effect so far! She is still trying to dig up her bed the cushions and the garden. I suspect the fact that she is an absolute madam is why the breeder sold her as a pet! She had got into a good routine and was quite happy going to bed before. She went to the vet and had her worm tablet on tues but that was all. I have bought a refill for her DAP diffuser just in case too- that ran out some time ago without any difference to her. its a mystery!

I noticed in your other post that she was play bowing and wagging before you put her in her crate - it's a good idea with some dogs (like children) to make the time before bed time quiet and low key, so they get the signals that they need to start to relax and wind down, if not given this, then both children and dogs can throw 'tantrums' if suddenly shut away from all the fun stuff they were enjoying.......
actually, that was at 1.30 am when she was whining,( we put her to bed at 10.00) and we let her out to see if she wanted to go out for a wee. She didn't: she wanted to be upstairs with us! so she ran about like a mad thing. We gave her a big dose of the Calm herbal tincture before bed and she slept until 6.00am. She usually has a quiet walk around the block last thing at night.
