Hello I have two non-working border collies whom i feed autarky.I feed twice a day morning and early evening. There ages are 9 months and 21 months .my question is should i continue feeding twice a day or reduce to just once in the morning , i would like to know what others do.Thanks

I feed twice a day. Two reasons:-

1/ I believe it's easier on their stomach to have smaller meals, particularly dogs which suffer from gastric torsion.

2/ As working dogs I prefer to take them out to work with a little food inside them to help replace energy used during the day.

Regards, John

I feed mine twice a day. A single feed means a large amount of food in the stomach in one go which can lead to bloat, especially if the dog is exercised too soon after the meal. If you do decide to only feed once a day (some people still do this) remember, the dog will sleep better at night if it is fed in the evening. Dogs required to be alert during the night (guard dogs etc) are fed in the morning so that they sleep in the day instead.

I think you'll find most owners feed twice a day,24 hours is an awful long time to go without food :(  and not to mention eating is one of our dogs greatest joys,so why take it away??
