My flatcoat bitch is 8 and is showing signs of stiffness when she gets up after resting.I have tried cod liver oil, glucosamine tablets and synflex which someone recommended - it's a liquid glucosamine with other bits added but she doesn't seem to have improved.I have used devils claw on my horse and it has worked really well and wondered if anyone had used it on their dog? It says it is safe for use on dogs so i think i might give it a try - if she'll eat it in her food! If this doesn't work i'll take her to the vets who will probably suggest metacam but i've heard bad reports about that. Anyone got any advice?

I use the capsules if any of my dogs is stiff or limping, they work for my dogs

Have you thought of cortaflex? I don't find that Devils Claw is quite enough for my arthritic horse but Cortaflex shows a definite improvement?

Devils Claw, Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM, Green Lipped Mussel, Cetyl Mistreate, FBO, Deer Velvet all have their fans; find what works for your dog. They are all perfectly safe to give to all animals including humans.

Not really relevant to your dog maybe, but it was reported on the local news that a number of people in Hampshire who suffer from arthritis, are being put on a course of Devils Claw trials,to see if it is a suitable alternative for them to their usual prescribed drugs!
Having recently been prescribed an anti-inflammatory for my arthritis I am going to ask my own gp about these trials.
As tohme says what suits one 'animal' may not suit another, but I think anything is worth trying to alleviate pain,it's finding that suitable one that is the difficulty ;) glucoamine did not work for me :(
Jacqueline. :)

i find it brilliant! i always keep some tablets just incase!

Thanks for your replies. I'll give it a go and see if it works and if not i'll try her on something else.
My mum has resorted to devils claw and she thinks that despite her bull terriers daily medication she has seen an improvement in him since he started taking devils claw

Our GSD is on Devils Claw & her movement is back to normal now
i know this has nothing to do with devils claw!! but while we are on the subject of remedies, if my dogs ever get a little cut in there pad i put on sterzac talk, its used for babys umbilical cords and is a super healer!!

Shark cartilage is also worth a try,it has many other benefits besides helping with stiffness.

Sterzac has now been taken off the shelves and you can no longer get it
but it was brill also for hot spots.
