In June I had a litter from my working CS bitch. I went to great lengths to choose an appropriate dog with clear eyes (as mine is). Her preganancy etc was problem free and it was a very enjoyable experience all round. Just to prove that things don't always go to plan and that a litter of pups can't possibly be a money making venture (not that I ever thought it would be, just for those who do) we've got a pup with entropian, I've spent more on vets fees for him than you could possibly imagine. He's a lovely little thing and my family's favourite all the way through. He had his op on Thursday and all went to plan. So this is where he will stay. He'll be trained and will work, hopefully alongside his mum - Teal.
As the pups arrived we named them silly names to distinguish one from the other as they were all black and white. The little chap we have was Batman. It was soon pointed out to us that he had been misnamed as Batman had a fully black head and it was Robin who wore the mask but we have a friend called Robin and didn't see the need to rename him. Now that he is staying my eldest and I think we should change his name but my youngest is adamant that he should stay a Batman! We can't think of anything else having tried Badger for a few days and that didn't work, then Bee but eldest doesn't like that. The girls in the vet hospital were horrified (in a nice way) that he didn't have a name but couldn't come up with anything suitably gundog like. Their suggestions were Panda, Humbug and Hector!
I've pointed out to youngest that although it's OK having an 11yr old working a dog called Batman, he will still have the dog when he is 21 and might feel different then!
We like names with a country theme but can't come up with anything that fits. We did try shortening it to Bat or Bats (appropriate for his eye problems) but then it got turned into Batty which has slightly different connotations these days!
Any suggestions?

I know the feeling! I'm stuck with a dog called Piglet, when if I'd known he was staying I'd have called him Jasper.
How about 'Basker' - short for Baskerville? It sounds similar to what he's used to, and although he's not a hound, it seems a doggy sort of word.
I think Batman is a great name for a dog. I'm a thirty-something rather than an 11 year old - but then I've got a cat called Beaker - which reminds me - whatever you do, don't name him after a muppet - it's just asking for trouble!

Wasn't Batman's real name Bruce Wayne? You could call him Bruce. (Might be totally wrong :D LOL.)

The first dog puppy in one of my litters was called Alfie (short for Alpha - the second pup was Beattie, short for Beta). I think it's a great name!

I hate to admit this :) - but my first, long-term boyfriend called me Batman :D Why, heaven only knows :D Looking back on it, it seems strange, but I was too in love to worry then :)

We have always called our dogs after Herbs. So when we had 5 pups from our Cocker (Dill), we decided to continue it. All 5 have Herb names in their KC registrations......but None are called by them.
We (well Mrs BB actually) nick named them Buster, Bernard, Pixie, Daisy and Nellie.
Buster and Pixie will remain with us, the others are have now gone to new homes, but all are still called by their nick names.................even Bernard.
Call him Batman............otherwise you'd be 'robin' him of his inheritance???
Sorry.............Mrs BB made me do it??
