Hi , I was wondering if any of you have tried Gilbertson & Page "Dr.John" Food. They do a Silver and a Gold. It is the Gold in particular I'm interested in. The bumpf says "The complete food specifically for working and sporting adult dogs".The Gold is 20% protein and the Silver 18%.
I know a couple of people who feed their Golden Retrievers it and they look great on it ( and my Vet even mentioned it rather than pushing Hills !!!)
The thing is it is only about £7.00 for 15kg so almost seems too good to be true. I spoke to the rep at Crufts and he said that they can charge less as they do not spend £1000's etc on corporate image and big stands at shows and advertising like the "large" companies do.
I just wondered if anyone on here feeds it and how they've found it.
Thanks , Sara :)

Hi Sara,
I've been feeding it to my lot (springer, gwp, 2 pointers) for about 6 months now and they are doing brilliantly on it. We feed the gold one.
I switch my two pointers to Chudley's Working Crunch though when they are working but find Dr John a good maintenance food.
Would definitely recommend it. Good price too as I get through a sack a fortnight.

Thanks for your response Helen :)
The reports I've had have been good about it but wanted a wider opinion before trying it out (not that it would matter to throw the bag away at that price if he didn't get on with it !!)

I used it for quite a while but their production of the food was terrible, you just never knew when you wd. be able to get it so I gave up on it. My dogs did look well on it though.

used this on my weims for a couple of bags, but what they produced from the rear end did not please me! Nor did their drop in condition, those that ate it and those that picked at it! I would seriously wonder what goes into a food that can be produced so cheaply, and i do believe the grain content is high--which would concern me with regard to torsion. Arden Grange is my choice, dogs look great on it no matter what they do.
I guess, like most foods, some will do well and some not.

Hi SarahJayne
Can you elaborate a bit for me about the link between torsion and grain content or point me in the right direction for more info on this ?
Thanks, Sara

Ah ha - you just made me remember someone else saying before that supply can be a bit erratic which could cause a problem if I go down this route.
Thanks, Sara

We get our Dr John at a place in Hawes. Never had a problem getting it at all.

I have been feeding Dr John Gold to my Irish Wolfhounds for a few months now and l'm really happy with it. I was feeding Gilpa Kennel before and the analysis of the two feeds are very similar. I think Gilbertson & Page foods are very good value for money and my bitch (now 22 mths) has been on it from weaning, starting with Gilpa Pup to Junior and then Kennel now Gold.
