Just wondered if anyone has ever had problems with scarred tissue, and had to go to physio.
If so did it work, and did it ever re-occur at a later date.
It's just because I am sat here in agony trying to rest my leg, Doc's orders.
About 3 years ago the joint at the top of my leg started to really play up. To describe the initial feeling it was as if I needed to to click my leg back in place, if you can understand that. Anyway the pain got worse, which caused me so limp quite badly, When I moved my leg in certain positions the pain was bad. As far as I knew I hadn't done anything to it. Went to Dr's got anti flamm tablets, no change. Had Xrays no probs with hip bones. Got sent to physio a couple of times a week for a few months. All they did was try to pinpoint where the pain was coming from, which was quite difficult, then massage the area in a circular movement for about 15 mins. I think I had some sort of lazer treatment too. They said it was scarred tissue. Every week they would ask if it was any better, eventually it obviously was, and they said they could do nothing more, so unless it got really bad again, I didn't need to go back.
I don't remember how long the slight pain carried on for, but eventually it must of worn off altogether.
Now about 2 1/2 years later it has started up again. Over a couple of weeks it has got slowly worse. It seems a lot more painful this time, and movement seems much more restricted. Its so painful, I'm gasping out with every wrong move. It's got so bad, that no position is comfortable. didn't get much sleep last night.
This morning was worse than ever, I can't even straighten up, I am limping badly and have to physically lift my leg when I need to change posistion, You would of laughed at the preformance I had getting dressed. Anyway I couldn't go to work, I had to make other arrangements for my daughter to get to school, I didn't dare try to drive, and it would of took me an hour to walk the normal 10 min journey.
Partner took me to the Dr's, he's almost certain it's the same problem, but is unsure why it had re-occured
Got some stronger anti flam tablets to try, if no better in a fortnight I'll have to be refered to the hospital again for physio. So I'm expecting to be in pain for quite sometime :( The tablets didn't work last time, so can't see them being a success now.
I've been told I have to have total rest, no work, no walking the dogs :( :(
I kmow I'll have to do as I'm told, as my health comes first. I was really scared incase he said it was athritis (sp), but he's assured me it isn't.
So after all that, I was wondering if anyone has had similar problems, or experiences you could share with me. Or if anyone is a qualified physiotherapist, and could explain more about scarred tissue etc, and if it is normal for it to re-occur.
Thanks for listening to me moaning on, but it really makes you feel miserable.
Mitch.
Sounds like it's similar to a problem I have with my shoulder. It was dislocated in a motorbike accident about 10 yrs ago. It's been bashed a few time since as I race bikes and this sort of thing is inevitable. Everytime I saw anybody about it (doctors, consultants, X-rays, MRI scans etc) I was told there is nothing wrong with it. The pain would come back and after persistance the doctor would administer an injection in the joint to make it go awy for a few months.
Eventually I had a physio who gave me some exercises to do with a big rubber band. If I do these at least three time a week I don't have a problem - been OK for about 2 years now!
I hope your physio helps to find something that works for you.

Thanks everyone for your words of sympathy.
No Liz I haven't seen a consultant, nor did I last time, I wasn't referred to one.
Do you think it could be something different to what they are saying it is.
They seem positve that it's scarred tissue or similar, due to how I've described it, and when and where it hurts as they move it in certain positions.
What I want to know is how you get the scarred tissue in the first place.

Without going into detail (too much to tell !), I had years of lower back problems, at times I was unable to walk and had to crawl around the house (they think it is a damaged disc which could have happened when I was young). Anyway, physio helped for a few hours after treatment which gave some relief each week, but after my four NHS appointments I was on my own and it cost a fortune so I packed it in. I also dread to think what I spent on a private chiropractor, looking back, it did nothing to help. After a couple of years it stayed fairly stable and although it was uncomfortable I learned to live with it. By chance, three years ago the gym nearby advertised an evening they were having to promote treatments for back and musclular problems. I went along and told the lady my history. Well, one week later I went to see her and she asked if I'd ever considered acupuncture. I hadn't, but there and then told her to give it a go, I had an open mind because I knew very little about it and didn't know anybody who'd tried it. The difference was amazing and the next morning my husband noticed that when I got out of bed I was immediately standing straighter and I couldn't believe that I didn't need to hold on to the wash basin to brush my teeth. I only had five sessions of treatment and have been free from pain ever since. I guess it doesn't work for everybody but you have nothing to lose by trying. All I know is if I hadn't had it done I would still be in discomfort. Being in constant pain is so draining isn't it ?. Really gets you down. I do sympathise with you and hope you find something that helps you soon.

I know the pain you are going through,I know every handhold in my house with my eyes shut and getting to the loo first thing in the morning is agony.Unfortunately mine is osteoarthritis

anti-inflammatory tabs. and pain killers are helping,a bit,but whilst walking sometimes I have to stop, wait for the knees to click, that hurts like hell, then I can move off painfully again.
However if your problem is with scar tissue physiotherapy may well help. Some years ago on holiday in Plymouth I fell twisting my ankle very badly and ended up in hospital feeling very sorry for myself. They x-rayed it,but said 'we can't see a break, strap it and rest it'.However about a year on from then I could hardly bear to put weight onto the ankle and it was like walking on cobbles all the time and getting worse,so I went back to my GP.He referred me to x-ray where they asked "When was it you broke the ankle?" Apparently it had 'healed' wrong, causing scarring on the tissue.I went for 6 weeks intensive physio treatment and since then I have had no problem with the ankle at all.
If only the knees were so easy to 'fix'.
