Why can't they show love thy neighbour????

Has the world gone PC potty????? I dunno why can't people just have a laugh and stop taking things so seriously!!!
- By wheaten_mad [gb] Date 01.09.04 11:59 UTC
I suppose its racial discrimination so they are not aloud to show it. The world to politically correct now and anything like they are not aloud to put on. Im only 14 but coming from a family where my four brother are interested in all the old programmes, I know all the ones your talking about and I would much rather watch them that the rubbish that they put on now. Bring back Norman Wisdom!!!!:D My dad had a DVD for Christmas of him and Bruce Foresight at the London palladium, and me and my brothers watch it more than my dad!!!  I also love Faulty Towers, Porridge and Open all hours. I wish that they would show more of them, as I have never seen all the episodes.

Remember "Roots" that epic true story about black slavery? It was shown in the 70's It was unmissable and completely absorbing. Wish they'd put that back on.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 01.09.04 19:38 UTC
Except about 10 years later they discovered that it wasn't true ...
- By Harriet [gb] Date 01.09.04 20:41 UTC
Well I'd better tell the history teacher who shows it to his yr 9's studying black slavery then. Nevertheless it was a good series.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 01.09.04 21:01 UTC
This makes some interesting claims.

It indeed made a very valid point that the people sold as slaves were captured and sold in the first place by fellow black Africans (albeit of different tribes), not the 'wicked white man'.
:)
- By John [gb] Date 01.09.04 21:17 UTC
Bet no one remembers "Quatermass Experiments", "Shadow Squad", "The Prisoner", or even "The Strange World of Gurney Slade"
- By ManxPat [im] Date 01.09.04 21:40 UTC
Certainly the "The Prisoner".
- By janestan [gb] Date 02.09.04 09:02 UTC
I miss all the old western tv series like
'Alias Smith and Jones'
High Chapparral
Bonanza
laramie
Wagontrain
Maverick
Champion the wonder horse
The lone ranger
Zorro the one fron the 60's not the rubbish spanish remake  etc
I also used to watch whenever they were on
Beverley hillbillies    gentle Ben     The Fallguy- have theme music on my computer
phil silvers show     Walt Disney Presents  the ateam
the saint must be roger moore
Robin Hood -like the richard greene one not so much the modern ones that american one is awful, they try to make it be about black magic?
the persuaders
Must admit to liking Roger Moore have even got a video copy of some of the episodes of IVANHOE made in the 50s.

Compiling this listmakes me feel old!  I am only 26 and most of these were finished by the time I was born.
PS I do get to watch some of the old serials on sky there is a great channel which just schedules Bonanza and beverleyhill Billies.
Also found this wonderful man in Australia who has reams of old tv shows from the 50s 60s and will send videos over.  Must now save all my pennies to get his collection and write letters to the BBC to complain about morning tv Schedules, we need less of the  Morning Show, The Fimbles, and those silly green pink things more old tv series.  If they put on Gentle Ben and Flipper and Lassie and Champion the wonder horse  along with Phil Silvers todays children would have a love of the natural world plus have lessons in lying, cheating conniving and still be the nice guy.

Sorry for the long post.

Bonanza is on Sky now.  I watched it the other day although I always preferred High Chaperal.  The Beverly Hill Billies are on the same channel as well.  It's called the Bonanza channel.

'The strange world of Gurney Slade'  What was that about?
My mum lives a few miles from there
- By GreatBritGirl [gb] Date 02.09.04 10:52 UTC
My mum still watches half of those programmes on sky on UKGold and Granada + ........The BBC were criticised for showing too many re-runs of old progs so i doubt they will be back on the standard channels any time soon.
- By Lois_vp [gb] Date 02.09.04 11:54 UTC
Talking of re-runs I wish they'd show the Thorn Birds again - one of my all-time favourites.
- By gundogsrbest [gb] Date 02.09.04 13:18 UTC
i love the a team, murdock is my favourite, my younger sisters also like to watch the reruns of the a team on ukgold, they are also enjoying knight rider, and the more recent gladiators, and going a bit further back, porridge, dads army and some mothers do have them,

Recently bought the Thornbirds boxset for my Gran - she loves it! :D
- By Daisy [gb] Date 02.09.04 13:57 UTC
I don't remember some of the oldies from the 60's as my parents forbade us to watch ITV - they considered it was too lower class :D One of our neighbours' granddaughters came over from Austria every summer for 6 weeks and we used to go into her house and watch programs like Batman and Coronation Street :D Forbidden Fruit :D

- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 02.09.04 14:02 UTC
ITV was forbidden in our house too, Daisy! It made homework on advertisements exceptionally difficult.
- By Daisy [gb] Date 02.09.04 14:10 UTC
My father would remove the fuse from the circuit that powered the TV to make sure that we didn't watch it while they went out and we were supposed to be doing our homework.

My sister and I were only allowed to read 'suitable' comics like Princess and Jackie - not the Beano and American ones that had Spiderman in. It's a different world now :D

- By John [gb] Date 02.09.04 16:56 UTC
Gurney Slade was a character played by Anthony Newley. It was all psychedelic sound and vision, kaftans, magic mushrooms and all that.

Way out man!
- By Harry C [gb] Date 02.09.04 18:24 UTC
