this last year has been really tough with alot of family problems, and my year old dobermann dog was not getting the love and care he deserved, i found him a home which was very heart wrenching but thought its the best thing for him, my thoughts have allways been a dog is for life, ive made the biggest misstake of my life and cant stop thinking about him, i would love to see him but know this will only make things worse, his new owner says he has settled in but i keep thinking HAS HE. i couldnt get another as it wouldnt be the same, i half hoped he wouldnt settle and get him back but the guy said no. i know there is nothing i can do, just hope others read this and think long and hard before they make the same misstake i have

Big mistake, depends from which view point you are looking. The dog and it's new owner are likely to be very happy with the arrangement and you did the right thing, a breed like that needs company and attention and I have no doubt that far from making a big mistake you did the right thing. Can understand that now your life has become more stable you are missing the company of your dog but if you should get another only you can say. Only you know if you are feeling like this because you need a dog or whether you now feel you can offer a stable and caring home to a new dog and want it for the sake of the dog and not because you need the support of a dog. Think you need to think very hard what your reasons are and if you can offer a dog a home for life with all the attention and care that entails.
