Heard they are planning on banning pitbulls here in Saskatchewan

When will they realize it is not the breed but the people who are breeding them that way. If someone goes to a petstore or Joe Blow then they most certainly NOT breeding for temperment/soundness. More then likely that dog has aggression in it and to breed that out in an aggressive dog would take years. Why don't people realize if they want a dog like that to go to a good breeder who is breeding for temperment/soundness. They haven't banned them yet but are planning on it and its breeders like that that give these dogs bad names and cause them to be banned  that just infurates me   Whats next inline the Rottie's/dobies ect?

There is some one here that brought alot of those types of dogs here, pressa, cane corso ect and just breeds them. My friend got 2 pits off him and in the end she ended up PTS because they turned on her and she babies her dogs, tried a dog trainer to help with them, got them evaluted but in the end PTS. I said just wait till we hear about his Pressa's her bred we will read about them in the paper. I told her its people like that that give these poor breeds the bad name because of the way they breed them with no care of their temperment.

Still a Pi***d so will stop now

Dollface,

It really is a Catch 22 situation.  In the wrong hands you can take any breed of dog and turn them into aggressive, unreliable, untrustworthy and virtually untrainable beasts.  In the right hands, the same breed of dog can be a confident, reliable, trustworthy and trainable companion.  It is an absolute disaster when these two things occur to the same breed, as has happened to the pit bull.  You have the wackos training and breeding pit bulls for fighting and as "macho accessories."   And you have responsible breeders who love the breed and breed for sound type and temperament.  And then you have authorities whose role it is to protect society from the first type of breeder and dog -- and they are forced to put all of the same breed into the same pot.  Tragic.

Unfortunately it is possible to PTS a dog but not it's owner nor it's breeder. We will never be able to stop people owning or breeding a dog to make up for there own inadequacies. Only to look around at the number of large bulltype cross breeds there are now in the UK to realise that it can't stop at the Pitbull and sooner or later there will be a public and press outcry against one of these crosses and then we will have another session of 'pitbull' type dogs being arrested in the street. Trouble is it is easier to remove a type of dog than a type of owner.

Just sad :( just sad :(

I've noticed recently that more and more Staff pups are coming into our surgery with clueless owners (almost always men).  It's so sad, they're beautiful little puppies at 8 weeks with lovely temperaments, then we see them a year later and they're completely out of control.  By this time the owners have usually lost interest in them so they're not prepared to invest time and money correcting the problem.  Such a waste as these dogs could have been wonderful pets, but unfortunately this situation seems to be escalating.

We're seeing a lot of rotties too, and it seems to be fashionable just now to get two pups at the same time, which then bond with each other as the owners get bored with them and can't socialise with people.  I feel so sorry for these animals (except when they're trashing my surgery and/or trying to kill me).  Don't know the emoticon for a big sigh, but I'd put one in if I could!
