I'm very happy with our new house apart from the fact that our new neighbours - a very nice family - have very smoky BBQs once or twice each week. Depending obviously on the wind direction, the smoke sometimes blows all over our garden, which is a real nuisance, meaning we have to shut all windows & can't use the garden. Am I just being an old misery, or does anyone else experience similar problems?

I have the same problem, carene. :( I wish people would keep their smells to themselves! It's flipping annoying, and really spoils our summer evenings, being unable to sit outside and enjoy the scent from our flowers.

Same here :D

I hate barbecue smells (esp. as i don't eat red meat, it sometimes makes me feel sick :( ) although my OH perversely loves them LOL! I try to be tolerant and just go indoors if the smell is coming my way as luckily we only have the problem once a week or so, not all thetime.

I much prefer the scent of the garden, i'm with you there JG ;)

our neighbour doesnt have BBQ's and we do but she isnt in often ... I know its annoying but there isnt really a lot you can do about the smoke....i find bonfires more annoying but then i like the smell of BBQ's - We do have one neighbour who seems to have a lot but his swearing and loud music when he has them are more annoying :(

Unfortunately, people do have the right to enjoy their gardens :) What for one is enjoyment, may not be for another :) It just depends on the frequency of what you do and how much you are aware of the annoyance that you are causing to your neighbour :)

We have neighbours who park their vans almost outside our house on the grass - one, which is quite high, partially blocks the view from our lounge window. We are friends with his parents and wouldn't dare tell them that it drives us round the bend at times - but we value our friendship with them and so it is worth putting up with it.

Life is full of give and take and maybe something that you do , drives them mad as well :D

I have the same problem as you Daisy.    There are always large vans parked outside my house and they block out all our view.    We also have a problem with B.B.Q's and to make it worse they put wood to burn on it after they have eaten (it's one of those chimney things) because I suppose it is warm to sit around.    I think the only answere is.....if you can't beat them (join them).  I am going to park my car in front of my house in future.....at least I can see over it!!

Our next-door neighbour has a few BBQ's but we have a big hedge around our garden and that keeps a lot of the smoke out. But when we had the eclipse a while ago, everything's meant to go quite, and he starts mowing his lawn!!! But both our neighbour are all right considering. :)

We love having BBq's, we warn our neighbours giving them time to shut their windows if they want, or take their washing in.

Just remember it's a bit of give and take with your neighbours, they might not like dogs but I bet they don't all complain about them ;-)

That's why it's so nice to be able to come on here and moan about them, while still remaining civil with them in reality! ;)

We have relatively new neighbours and yesterday they began a Bar B Q despite me having two lines full of washing ..I was NOT a happy bunny :( Would only have taken 30 seconds for them to warn me so I could get it all in before being covered in Bar B Q smoke :(
