Went there in July for 2 days and I wouldn't rush back. Will stick to my usual Dartmouth in future.

Stopped off in Fowey a couple of times on way to Falmouth. Pretty little place, quiet, friendly, nice little shops and some nice pubs and tea rooms.
It's only a small place, don't know if I'd stay there but I guess it would be good if you wanted to use it as a base to visit other places nearby.
Looks like there would be some lovely walks to do.

Oh I had a drink on the terrace there!!
Fowey itself was just a bit too small for me. But there are lots of nice dog walks around the area.

It's hilly!! sells lovely Cornish pasties. You can hire a small boat in the harbour for a trip on the water. Not sure how dog friendly they are, lots of Cornish towns seem anti-dog these days.Idon't know the hotel you mention, but as a base the area is probably a good one for exploring from,as Fowey does not have a lot there from what I can recall.
However any break has to be good, make the most of it,we always do!
Jacqueline :)
We stayed in an old inn just across the water in Bodinnick. Really enjoyed it but i guess it depends what you are into! We hired a boat and went up and down the Fowey and discovered some wonderful wildlife in some of the inlets; also it's where Daphne du Maurier did a lot of her writing so we were keen to see some of the places she had lived in the area :)
Bodinnick was very peaceful, Fowey seemed more lively, but it was wonderful to wake in the morning and hear the gulls and the sound of the river. We used it as a base for travelling from.

We aren't taking the puppies or the children so it is just us two for a chill out two days for our wedding anniversary so it sounds ideal :) We decided against Jersey but only because we want to go there for longer than the two days so will try that next year.
Thanks folks :)

Regarding the Channel Islands ,we preferred Guernsey :) unless you want to shop for perfume/jewelry ;) Guernsey is much more laid back and relaxed, more people and dog friendly,or so we found anyway.
We stayed in a hotel in Jersey,a short bus ride from the main town,I forget the name as it wasn't very remarkable except for the fact they served cabbage in various disguises every night, boiled one night, pickled another, coleslaw then plain raw! and hubby is allergic to it! even the smell makes him violently sick

In Guernsey we camped :o) the tent and everything in it was provided for us.
Wherever you stay though in the channel islands, remember to take your passport in case you want to hop across to France for a bit of 'duty free shopping too!' :D

I went years ago with my sister and a friend. We had four dogs with us and loved it! We stayed in a lovely little cottage nearby and spent all week walking along the coastal footpath.

Wow! The hotel looks absolutely gorgeous and the views from the terrace are amazing!
Have a fantastic time :)
Hi Lucy,
YES! We stayed there a few years ago for a week's sailing regatta. I'd love to go back, without the boat. It's a typical small Cornish town, narrow streets, little cottages. It's an ideal place to sit on the balcony relaxing and watching the activity on the river. The hotel looks very nice. I hope you have a good time. :)
Happy Anniversary! When is it?
PS. Don't forget to report back about the hotel. :)

Well we are back and what a lovely place :) Really a very special place with that no kiss me quick hats or naff tourists :D
The hotel was A1 and the food was excellant ! expensive but well worth every penny if you want indulgence :)
Fowey is a place you want to go if you like boats and a non typical tourist place :)
We will go back :)

Glad you enjoyed your break, Lucy. If you can't treat yourself on your anniversary, when can you, eh?
"Fowey is a place you want to go if you like boats and a non typical tourist place" - that's exactly why we liked it. See you there next time, perhaps!! ;)
Hope the girls were all pleased to see you back home.

We are picking them up this morning so we shall see ! I am not sure as 10 acres of enclosed land to roam free on, a log fire and lots of other dogs to play with........will they want to come home ! :)
