does anyone use treadmills to help in the conditioning of their dogs.what do you find the pro's and cons.also does anyone know any sites for electric treadmills (specificly designed for dogs) that are uk based

can the lady with the huskies that bought a treadmill a few months back pm me, i need to ask a question.

I've used one and found it absolutely fab for my dog.  He loved it as well and would hop on and run by himself with his tail wagging.
I had the use of a huge professional one in a gym which was quite fortunate.  I wouldn't use one of the doggy slatted ones I think they look awful :(  although in fairness some people think they are ok.
Pro's are you can put your feet up and read a magazine or have a cuppa while your dog's slogging away - especially if it's pouring down outside :D
Keeps them well muscled and builds stamina.
Cons - can't think of any that I found.  My mate tried it with his dog though and the poor thing was absolutely terrified of it.  Legs splayed and eyes rolling and belly hit the floor and wee'd when it started to move.  Panicked at slow walking pace.  Don't think for some dogs it's worth persevering with if they are going to have an extreme reaction like that so I'd rather take the dog for a run with me.  So if you get a chance try before you buy.
I suppose it has the potential to make some people a bit lazy.  I still walked, ran with and socialised my dog but his stamina improved tremendously with the addition of the treadmill exercise.
Can't help with any websites - sorry
Lara x
