Hi All, I've tried logging in as a user but my PC won't let me for some reason!
Anyway, we have a 3 year old boxer bitch. She is my mum's really and hence my mum has always walked her before now. We used to live right out in the sticks and so she was walked around the lanes and the fields and was ok, not perfect, but ok! She was taken to training classes as a pup, but they had kennel cough there so mum stopped taking her.
We have now moved to a new house right in town. Lily is now a nightmare to take on walks. She appears to be very aggressive towards other dogs. (We also have another older dog, who is very obedient, but we think she used to bark and 'go' at things, then retreat and Lily would go in all guns blazing!). I'm aware that part of the problem may well be because she is on a lead, but as she is quite a stocky lady we are afraid to let her off just in case she did actually attack, we're not sure she would though.
I started taking her to clicker training, we explained she was aggressive etc etc. She went along to the beginner classes and was really quite good, and got better and better as the weeks went on, learning sit, down, stay, wait etc. She is very greedy so the work for a reward system works quite well, and with the clicker she knows when she has got something correct. However, this is all very well when your confined in a room, or the house, but outside we just cannot keep her attention. I've tried taking treats, balls, etc but nothing is as exciting as other dogs. (the class was an 8 wk course, now waiting to start next stage!)
It is really now quite a problem, as I no longer want to take her anywhere as its such a fight!
She is going on an aggression course in october i think, where they will try to work out exactly how bad she is and whether or not she would actually attack, or if its just alot of noise about nothing.
When we meet bigger dogs on walks i always try to let her off and she is usually very good, but on a lead always lunges at everything making herself look very agressive. Its such a shame as she is a lovely lovely dog really. I realise this has all stemmed from not doing enough as a pup, but what can we do now to make her more manageable?!

Have you tried asking other people(from the training class) & the trainer if they will help by meeting you outdoors ? As your dog will know the dogs it will help relaxing her in the presence of other dogs outside.

It could be she is not being aggressive but mouthing off wanting the others to join her(GSD's can be a problem for doing this apparently aggressive thing) When a dog means an attack it will do just that silently(watch any wolve/wild dog hunting there is no barking or any dog doing manwork they do not bark on the way to the attack)

You need to have someone see what she is doing so that her behaviour can be accurated assessed-My cavaliers bark like mad when they see someone they know if they are in the car or see them through the window they are not aggressive but using their language to let people know they are there
