It's what Labs do!!  You've got some serious training ahead of you - take a rolled up newspaper, and hit yourself and family members over the head repeating the phrase ' I must not leave things where the dog can get them!'..........  If you don't, you could end up with a very expensive vets bill - and that's at best :(

LOL @ Digger, I was thinking "erm what are we doing with the newspaper...ah!" Can't help massively as would have same problem if we left anything lying around but if I see Leon going for something I tell him "leave" and give him a treat or play a game when he does so or if he already has item in mouth I tell him how wonderful he is and run away so he follows me then drops it in exchange for a treat. We are getting there, slowly.Get some stuff that tastes bad to paint on the walls. Oh and get a nice raw meaty bone for chewing purposes perhaps?

Think the answer is you can't - you have to train yourself and if possible anyone else who shares the home with the dog - it will be quicker, and in some cases is even possible.

My 2 year old lab loves to eat eat and eat... I have often wanted to change her name from "Emmy" to "Dyson"! Work hard with the "Leave it" command which comes in VERY handy. Also, as the others said... do your best to keep every thing out of her way!

There's a bitter spray, which you can get from your vets that you can try spraying on things as a deterrent.  I'm not sure how, if at all, effective this is.  With a particularly bad scavenger at work, we used a concoction of mustard and chilli to put her off - it didn't work though!  It's the curse of the greedy lab! :D

Yes I'm afraid it's definately a lab thing! Mine has eaten socks, knickers etc etc and yes I had to hit myself over the head and think......put things out of reach!!!!  it's the only way to stop them believe me!  They are lightening quick and will just swallow things in one gulp.

Just be careful as if you look on the other threads on here there are some nasty stories about dogs swallowing things....it makes you tidy up for sure!

The bitter apple spray just adds to the yummy taste of things.  I tried it and Henry loved it! he licked it!

Tally got my watch the other day - stupid me for leaving it on the table and going out for half an hour without her approval! the strap tasted lovely but she spat out the watch face and buckle!...

My golden when she was a pup , ate walls in the house, never got to the stage of eating socks and stuff. My bullmastiff pup thought she would eat a dead mouse that my cat had brought home and left in the porch...(how gross)...she legged it into the garden, with mouse in her mouth, with me shouting spit it out.......But NO! she swallowed it. The cat wasnt best pleased i can tell u...lol

My young 14 month girl is the same eat anything....lol My floors are cleared..eg; no shoes.. socks.. toys etc.. She does like walls, fences, kennel door, she will wait for my husband to put anything up then chew the life out of it (God that sounds bad.. :D ) she loves bitter bite... lol.
Had to laugh i had a list of boarding kennel sales come this morning and made the mistake of leaving it on the chair while saying goodbye to my brother on return she had ripped it in two...... :)  Take it she dosnt want to move.... :)
God i love her though she has the face of an angel.

Labradors do eventually stop eating everything they see. Trouble is, it's usually approximatly two weeks after they die! ;)

Best wishes, John
