I was sitting in the waiting area at the vets today wahiting for the nurses to bring ellie out after her operation, and was studying the posters they had in there. One was lots of different breeds and their repective weights. As would be expected for nearly all breeds bitches were a few kg's lighter than the males. THat is except for the leonbergers, which were both bitches and dogs: 65kgs.  Why are theyt both the same? I was also surprised how much heavier they are that bernese mountain dogs who are something in the region of 40-50kg. I always thought they were similar sizes? I have to say that these are two of my favourite breeds and i was trying to decide which one i would prefer to own one day! (Still can't decide!)

Height - wise Bernese are 58 - 70 cm Leonbergers 65 -80cm max so not much difference in height. Weight Bernese 50 kg Leos 75 kg max @ 48months. Have seen a few Bernese and they are beautiful dogs, maybe leos are heavier 'boned', not sure really.
Maddie is  36 kg @ 6 months, when I took her to the vets last week, he described her as 'chunky' :D and believe me she is quite heavy and very strong for a young girl.
