Funny you should say that, i was just walking the dogs this afternoon, only been out twenty minutes when a wasp flew straight at me, flew into my hair and stung me on the back of my head. It really hurts, but i had to carry on the walk. Vinegar did help though.
This is the 4th time i have been stung like this, they just seem to love stinging me for no reason! They do seem to be very sleepy and dozy at the moment.

Have heard lavender oil is very good for stings.

Don't know, I just read it somewhere. But it smells a whole lot better than vinegar. :-) You can get it at chemists, health food shops and them places than sell aromatherepy oils.

You should never put an essential oil directly onto the skin.
- By Lassielover [gb] Date 01.09.04 08:47 UTC
how should you put it on your skin.kirsty
- By tohme Date 01.09.04 10:00 UTC
all essential oils require a "carrier" such as almond oil etc.
- By Harriet [gb] Date 01.09.04 15:34 UTC
No, don't put directly onto skin. You can use olive oil, it's easier to get than almond oil and cheaper too.

I always used to put Lavender straight on my skin apparently its very good for spots!!!

Maybe thats explains why I look like I do today!!!!!! Dog rough!! (no offence)

Will steer clear in future! ;)

In general, yes, they should be diluted but in an emergency, such as a wasp sting or burn, a single of drop of Lavender is a safe remedy. :)

Be very careful I heard of a five year old GWP who sadly died yesterday through reaction to wasp sting I have heard Apis mel is good to have around in an emergency anyone well up on this?
- By tohme Date 02.09.04 08:39 UTC
I use Apis Mel 30c useful for all stings from whatever source.

Always depends on the person or animal being stung!  For instance if you suffered from anaphalactic shock then getting stung is clearly more dangerous than if you don't, same goes for dog's!  Unlike bee's, wasps are not able to overwinter (unless a queen) and therefore eventually die off as the weather gets cooler.  In a desperate bid to 'live longer' wasps are more attracted to nectar/sugar foods (energy) and we then tend to notice them more this time of year for this very reason, especially around bins, picnics etc etc
