Dear All
My groomer phoned me today and asked me right out if she could use Copper (he's a border terrier) in a grooming competition she is entering this month. I'm really pleased she's considered him as she always does a fantastic job of hand stripping him and she thinks he's a "very handsome dog".
My problem is, Copper isn't good with other dogs and I can't bear to think of him wrecking the show with bad behaviour. He's perfect in the groom shop, stands still, doesn't bite or bark, likes the groomer and lets her do her stuff. I've got a muzzle and a harness and a halti for him so he's never out of control but he does tend to "get very shirty" when he sees other dogs.
On the other hand, when I had him at the training class with lots of other dogs he was quite well behaved and even got a special mention at the prize giving - so he can be good at times. It's more a one to one thing when he gets angry.
The groomer is well aware of Copper's temperament (she has a border herself who's similar) and is quite prepared for the fact that it might not work out but she still favours him. Should I let him go? I'll be at the show but she'll keep him the night before and take him down there. Sorry if I sound like a fussy parent (!) but please let me know what you think.
