Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Puppies NFC from 4 months?
- By Wendy J [gb] Date 31.08.04 12:03 UTC
I was speaking with someone the other day who said they thought the KC had changed the rules so that puppies could be entered NFC from 4 months.  I've looked all over the website and can't find anything aside from a reference in 2001 where they allowed this for Obedience, Agility and Working Trials, but I don't see anything for Conformation.

The wording on the officlal KC entry forms says that puppies under 6 months cannot be entered for competition...

Is there anyone out there that can clarify this for me and where can I find this info?

Hi Wendy,
I tried to enter my young Groenendael as NFC at an open show.  Apparently it is only certain breed and limited shows that are allowing this.

NOT FOR COMPETITION ENTRIES

The Kennel Club has been receiving numerous requests from individuals and clubs on the issue of allowing puppies between the ages of four and six months to enter shows  'Not for Competition'.

The General Committee has also been considering a proposal from the KCLC Breeds Council that puppies aged four calendar months and over are eligible to enter 'Not for competition' at breed club and sub-group club shows.

In considering this proposal the General Committee were mindful that a similar situation has been in operation at Obedience and Agility Shows for a few years and therefore agreed to extend this to single breed and sub-group shows.

Therefore, with immediate effect four month old puppies may be entered at single breed and sub-group shows with the provisos that the club/society offer this facility.

Kennel Club Regulations will not be altered to take account of this decision until the success or otherwise of this change is reviewed in two years time.

I think it has to be offered as an option by the breed club.

Has anyone else noticed that the obedience clubs make the NFC entries free of charge (the ones I have seen anyway) but the conformation clubs charge!

We have a club show xoming up and my freind who has a pup that age (her first homebred) wanted to enter her, but wasn't allowed as it hadn't been discussed and decided whether it would be allowed, it will need to be decided by club committee before the next show in April.

The BCC (Bearded Collie Club) are offering the facility, so at least some committees have acted quickly on it.

took my underage pups to our Champshow at the start of August and entered them NFC as per these new rules - think it's a great idea for socialising etc.
