Topic Dog Boards / General / how to stop her scratching?

Any suggestions on how to stop Spice scratching her stitches area? A firm NO! worked well for 'don't lick'. But she is still bringing up her rear feet to scratch around the area  it started to look red and angry and we got a cream to apply around the op area which has been successful,at least until she scratches herself again when it's effects to soothe, wear off.
She has been put into a t-shirt overnight, suggested by the vet, which stops her licking the wound, but she can still get her feet up and scratches, with or without the t-shirt.
We thought of putting socks on her feet but dare not as we have wooden floors.
We even bought her a couple of toys and big chewing treats to distract her ,but as soon as she gets up to move position or to get a drink up comes the foot to give it a good old scratch.

You could try Piriton as this might ease the itch. On a lighter note: Depending on how long she has to have stitches you could teach her to scratch on command that way I am sure she will say I'm not doing that!:)
