Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Where to start with info about showing

I have a 16week old golden retriever puppy and I have started to think about showing her.( The breeder suggested I should as she has a very good breed line) Could anyone tell me where I start in getting info about this or suggest any good books I should read. I intend to visit a few dog shows but feel I need as much info as possible. Also where do I find info about local ringcraft classes? We are working on gentle training at home at the moment and my pup is due to start at dog training classes in Sept. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you contact the KC they can advise on all your local ringraft classes-
these are invaluable because your dog will get used to being handled by other people plus he's meeting other dogs too. You will learn how to stand your dog in the ring and how the dog should be walked - different breeds walk/stand differently in the ring. You can also gain valuable advice from the more experienced handlers at class.
Good luck

In addition to lel's excellent advice, if the breeder has suggested showing your pup then they should be able to help you starting off, which shows, where, filling in forms, etc.

I'd also buy one of the weekly dog papers either Dog World or Our Dogs, your local paper shop will pre order for you if they don't stock.
They contain lots of info on showing and also advertise the upcoming shows
