Hi everyone,as a novice, i just wanted to ask a genreal question about food. Got our girl over a week ago and the breeder advised us to continue on the same food for as long as poss. The food is Eukanuba and is one of the most expensive ( if not the most expensive) of the many brands out there. Whild we dont mind paying for the best and keeping on this until adulthood, i would like to find out what differences there are and what are the benefits of this food? So basically does anyone have info and feedback on this food?
Thanks in advance
Deb

There will be some more thorough advice along soon i imagine but heres my tuppence worth  :-)
When i got my pup from the breeder she was on Euk and after reading many posts on her i realised that it wasnt one of the best foods and the company themselves were far from the best (just type Eukanuba into the search bit at the top to see what i mean). After a month or so i gradually changed her over onto burns (in my opinion a better food from a better company, a fraction cheaper in price) and i can honestly saw she  seems to enjoy it better and she is in the best of condition. Just my opinion but there seems to be a few people on here who think along these lines.

i feed my boy euk and he is in top condition, both coat, size for age, general condition and it suits him really well.
i know alot of people don't agree with me and don't feed their dogs on euk but i have been adviced by the vet to feed him on this because of his growth rate.
i know its personnal choice and what suits your dog best but i am not going to change him from euk.
if i had another pup i would use the same again.
guest what type of dog do you have?
it's all a case of finding the best food for your dog and which you as the owner choose.

I agree with the last posts.

If your dog in doing well on it, why change! :)

I feed mine on Bakers Complete (mixed with raw meat) he loves it, is in great health. Took him the vets the other day for a check up, and the vet is very pleased with him. He's been on it for a year now. At the end of the day, if it suits your dog, and you, thats yorur answer! :D

It is wise to keep a pup on the food he is used to for a while as he has enough change to cope with without the change of food as well. If you change his food then there is likely to be an upset stomach to deal with. When you do change his food then do it over at least 10 days, but if your dog is well on it then carry on. Different foods suit different dogs and different people have different ideas so if you have good reason to change that is fine but if you are happy with the food, the company and the dog is doing well then leave well alone.

I wean all my pups with Eukanuba, and send the pups of with their packs of samples etc.  As the other posters have said, it is very important to stick to what the pup is sued to during the initial period.  After tha, do some research, and if you feel happier with another product intoduce it gradually.  However, price and quality usually go together in dog food, beware of the cheappies!  Remember that the puppy stage is probably the most important time for making sure diet is suited to your dog, you want healthy bone formation etc.  Dont scrimp on puppy food!

I too found it very pricey, I switched mine to Nutro Natural Choice because it is cheaper and I found the ingredients to be better in my opinion :)

Do what works best for your puppy and what you can afford :)

Why not have a read through some of the old threads about food.  Their plus and minus points are well documented in discussions and you can then make more of an informed decision about what food is right for you and your dog.

When it comes to brands of food we all have our opinion but just like with us humans, one food doesn't suit all when it comes to our dogs.
