MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE SPENT A WHOLE YEAR CONSIDERING GETTING A NEWFOUNDLAND PUPPY, THEY ARE BIG DOGS AND WE DIDNT WANT TO RUSH INTO JUST GOING AND GETTING ONE, SO WE TOOK THE TIME TO READ UP ABOUT THEM AND GIVE US ENOUGH TIME TO MAKE OUR MINDS UP AS TO WHETHER WE WOULD STILL WANT ONE.   WELL WE DO.  NOW OUR PROBLEM IS FINDING A BREEDER CLOSE TO WERE WE LIVE, WHICH IS MERTHYR TYDFIL.  DO ANYONE KNOW OF ANY BREEDERS WHO LIVE IN THE WALES AREA, OR CLOSE TO WALES.  WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION.  THANK YOU   MR AND MRS BISHOP. www.stevbis55@aol.com

Why close to where you live???
I travelled from Lincolnshire to Blackpool to get my newest dog. And he is worth every minute of the 8 hour round trip!!!!!!!
I am sure to get the best dog (temprement ect) you will need to broaden your scope of thinking, especially seeing as Newfies are not exactly 'common' for want of a better word.
Sorry I cant help with the other part.
But good for you for thinking for a year about it, and am sure when you get your Newfie (they are gorgeus dogs) you will be really happy with it :D

You could get a newfy from just down the road and spend the next 10 years taking it to the vet. so please do lots of home work and if the best breeder is 200 miles away. then travel 200 miles it could save you alot of heartache!

When I bought my first newfy, it took about 9 months on a breeders list, and we had a round trip of over 350 miles to get her, they are very few and far between litter of well bred, hip scored and heart tested, I would contact the  the Newfoundland clubs Liason officer 01874 712089 they may be able to find out if there is any good litter in the country.

I have been on a breeders list for 12 months now, and we are still not sure if I will get a puppy this time either, the kennel club have a list, but these pups are usually book months in advance.

Have you had a look on the newfoundland club site for contacts
