Topic Dog Boards / General / Staffs and their skin???
- By MaxStaff [gb] Date 21.08.04 17:36 UTC
Hi,
Max has just recently started to chew in between his claws and at the top of his tail.
When I checked him over the part inside his claw is red and greeny looking. The top of his tail looks sore, it's red and the skin is flaking.

Is there anything you could reccomend for him, i.e. creams.
Or is this vets time.

Thank You
Ashleigh

I would visit the vet just incase- they can get infections due to the licking and this is probably why it looks greeny looking . In the meanwhile bathe the affected areas in salt water and then speak to the vet  :)

Thanks lel,
I really didn't know what to do. I was going to use aqueous cream or something like that.

I will do the salt water and get an appointment at the vet.

He licks and licks any given chance, I even put one of my socks on his paw, but he got that off in no time!

Thanks again,

Ashleigh

Gus has had numerous feet problems with itching and licking - we have changed foods which has helped loads and now we also use Sudocrem between his toes too :) It is (so far) keeping any infections at bay :)

Well,
we went to the vets today with Max. He was given 2 injections and so far hasn't bitten.
So, fingers crossed!

Thanks,

Ashleigh

You may find that once the anitiotics/antihistamines are out of his system that the biting/licking will flare up again . Thats why its important to try and find out the root case

Hi lynilou
has your vet seen your dog at all and how long has this been going on for ?
It may not be just due to food - its a process of elimination really.
It can be things they come into contact with that cause the itching/licking
( household cleaners, shake 'n' vac etc) or insects ( housedust mites/flea allergies) or tree pollens etc. Quite a few different things.
