Can anyone please enlightne me as to which are bona fide charities which do help dogs, I keep getting various letters from quite a few different charities asking for assistance.  But I would like to think any donation I made did to to the right full place, not one where a high percentage of the donation goes on expensive over heads.
many thanks if any one can clarify for me .

Local rescues and breed rescues are always nice to support because they are usually run by volunteers so the money goes to the animals instead of out in wages/admin. :)

We have always supported local rescue places with food, blankets, toys etc.much better I think than cash.I don't believe in giving cash as you are never really sure where it goes,so much is taken by admin.overheads etc.Our way it goes directly to benefit the dogs there. It's all down to personal choice I suppose. We had door to door callers yesterday from a rather large animal charity asking us to sponser a dog,so I just explained we helped out local rescue and she was quite happy to hear that. I believe that although the charities need funds to keep afloat, for staffing, building kennelling  etc. it can be done by grant applications to large bodies or companies,so my little bit is more on a personal nature.

Yes local rescues are your best bet. 100% of your cash gets to where you want it to go. We have one just up the road they are always having fetes and things which we go to. Also take up dog food that my fussy eaters won't touch with a barge pole. You know how it is you buy 15k of the stuff, they sniff and walk off in a sulk. Dogs at the home woof it down. :D

I would recommend NCDL  ( Dogs Trust )100% they are very good plus they put their money into schemes to help dogs I run a small rescue and they came out to see us checked our proceedures and kennels  adoption sheme etc and put us on their neutering scheme which means we can neuter spay for twenty five pounds they make up the difference this has helped us no end and will ensure dogs are not bred from .Its nice to see a  big charity putting something back instead of dancing out of every situation and paying fat salaries to their workers like the other charity

I would agree with what others have said about smaller voluntary run rescues needing the help, and you know all the money goes to the running of the rescue. And it is nice to here that dogtrust is able to help these smaller rescues. I myself donate and help Labrador rescue north west area.
