Thanks to Jeangenie and Jackyjat for answering my question on the visitors message board, have figured out how to log on now.  Jackyjat, you didn't say whether or not you disinfect your bitch.  The lady who bred my now brood bitch (sounds so cruel - she's my sweetie), always disinfects the face, feet and 'milk bar' with Milton's when she gets home as a friend of hers nearly lost a litter through infection.  How many others disinfect their bitches and other dogs when they get in from thier walk, and do they take their dogs to fairly dog free areas?

My more recent litters have been country-bred, so the bitch didn't meet many dogs on walks, but the first was born in central London, and we met loads! Never a problem though, probably because the bitch was up-to-date with her boosters so wasn't at risk herself, and her immunity had been passed to the pups through the milk. That was in the days before parvo, though.

My attitude is that up to the time weaning really gets under way the pups will have immunity to all the things the bit6ch has encountered, so I take my lot out on their normal walks.  I do pay attention to whether there is an outbreak of anything.

Had a scary moment with most recent litter as a pup from last litter who had been staying with me developed kennel cough some weeks later when the litter were young, but none of mine did and pups were fine.

I would tend to take Mum on lead walks only, just because all my good walks are at least 20 minutes each way from my house, and Mum wouldn't want to be gone that long up until the pups are fully weaned.

Don't se anything wrong with using a diluted disinfectant on the bitch if that makes the breeder happier.
