Didnt know how to word it any better. Emma has just got up from livingroom floor and went into kitchen, I heard a splosh sound and thought she had been sick without the wretching noise. The kitchen floor was covered in brown fowl smelling water, took a whole kitchen roll to clear it before washing. I wiped her bottom which was strangely dry, nothing on the rear end or legs at all, so I can only assume it sort of gushed out,(sorry to be so graphic). Up till now her toilet has been normal. She had an open pyo about 4 months ago and has been on strong antibiotics for that. She has has tribrissen last week for Kennel cough, which has turned into a chest infection so is now on synulux, and was also wormed (panacur) three days ago. She seems to be ok, normal temp, came back from kitchen and lay down in her bed in livingroom and went to sleep. She has never been dirty in the house after the first few weeks she arrived. I can only assume she went to kitchen as it was the closest door to her. Any suggestions. I do have some Kaolin but not sure whether to give any to her yet.

Hi Kay, your poor girl is certainly going through the ringer recently :-(

Although the description sounds more like it came from her back end did you check her whiskers/chest/forelimbs for soiling?  Although I guess she'd have cleaned them herself pretty quick.  One of my dogs did a one-off projectile vomit of foul smelling liquid which we never did get to the bottom of (unintentional pun, sorry!)  We thought she'd perhaps eaten something in the undergrowth - obviously faecal but a mystery as to species :o)  She was fine afterwards although off her food for about 12 hours or so.

The kaolin shouldn't do her any harm but I think I'd rather establish what had actually happened first - with all the other meds she's been on if it isn't necessarily going to benefit her it might be best to reassess in the morning after a consult with your vet.

Got to be good news that she seems OK in herself and temp is normal.  Will keep fingers crossed - what a sweety that she tried to make it to the closest door :o)

Hi Teri, thanks for reply. Yes I have checked her mouth etc. it was completely dry. Her breath does not have any nasty smells. I went throught to kitchen as soon as I heard the noise so she would not have had time to clean herself. Because she has had kennel cough she has not been out for walks for the last 10 days, so there is no possibility that she has eaten any plants or animal byproducts etc. that would cause tummy upsets.I have just given all my dogs some doggy treats and Emma rushed to the front of the queue, so I am not really too worried, more curious. I have never seen anything like this before. Will see what she is like in the morning. She and all others are sound asleep now. And yes she is a sweetie, 5 and half year old lab.

Had she been eating cat poo?  The antibiotics may have led her to balance her internal bacteria from other sorces ;)

Hi Hooch, No she has not been swimming in the sea, since the kennel cough she has not been out of the patio area of the house, nearly3 weeks now. Not even into the garden or grass.

Digger, no cat poo either, 4 labs on my patio, they wouldnt dare :)

It has not happened again, and pooh totally back to normal.  She has not had high temp and there have been no behaviour changes. Its really weird. I can only think that the worming on top of everything else has played a large part in it, although that was 3 days ago. She has not gone off her food at all, and just after this happened I gave the other dogs treats and she was 1st in the queue as usual. I half expected a mess during the night, but she woke me at 6.30 this morning and she was clean.

The only plants that are in the patio area are nasturiums and pansies, which I had planted for Megan, who always liked to pick the flowers and eat them, I know that these are edible and have never had a problem. But again Emma never eats the flowers or the leaves, although my other dogs do.

Hi Kay,

Great to hear she seems OK :-)  :-)  :-)

You may never find out what it was all about - but that's dogs, always finding something unusual to tax our brains <LOL>
