This post got me curious; I know that a Sprocker = springer spaniel x cocker spaniel and a Springador = springer x labrador; what is a Spanador? Is it any type of spaniel crossed with a labrador or is it like a springer but the difference is in one the dam is a SS and the sire is a lab and vice versa?
Keep seeing this mixes advertised in Shooting Times et al.

Wonder if these strange crosses are bred because they are used in the field or because the owners of the bitches are so busy training their dogs they forget to lock the in season bitch up. Pups could turn out to be a hand full, imagining the Springer temperament in something as solid as a Lab. Think this one must be a Springer x Cocker crossed with a Spaniel of some description or may be it is just the Springer x Cocker which are both spaniels, who knows.

I think sprockers are springer/cocker crosses. A chap I knew who worked his gundogs got a springador (working springer/labrador cross) hoping for a dog larger than a springer and calmer, smaller and faster than a lab. He got a very small, long-bodied lab which was absolutely hyper. No good for working at all.

Supose the only way to be sure with crosses is to breed the litter yourself and run them all on until the are about 2 years old at which point some can become Pat Dogs and visit you at the secure hospital :D

Lol! :D

as an owner of a sprocker (purely accidental mating, i know both parents) i would say go for either a springer or a cocker, jack may be the size of a cocker but he has all the power of a springer, if you want a calmer spaniel go for a cocker if you want a mad dog go for a springer, (these are based on my dealings with these dogs) or alternatively if you want a cross go to a rescue centre and rehome an older dog you will be able to see what you are getting size and temperament wise

Unless your reasons for wanting one are to do wtih working it, i would not go for it.
Rescues are full of xbreeds, and many of them were bred with work in mind and were sold to people wanting pets.
