Hi
I'm not sure if anyone can help me but, i am looking for a Golden Retriever Stud Dog for my Bitch.  I am not a Breeder but, i would like my Dog to have one lot of Puppies.  I have advertised but, no-one seems to be interested. Does anyone know of anybody?

Start by asking your bitches breeder for help, they will know which dogs from which lines would be best for your bitch. It the breeder is not available then you could try one or more of the breed clubs, you could also go to a few shows and talk the owners of dogs that take your fancy. As you do not know anything about breeding and the matching of breed lines you will have to find someone from whom to take advice, you may be able to do this through the breed club or at shows.

I imagine you have had all the health tests required for the breed done as, almost without exception, no owner of a stud dog will entertain a bitch that is not tested and not of good quality and representative of the breed as they, as well as you, will be legally liable for the pups your bitch produces and no one wants to risk being hauled before the courts and told to pay a lot of compensation because they did not take all the steps available to insure the pups are as perfect as possible.

One last thought how old is your bitch and are you able to cope with a litter, sometimes it is much better and costs a good deal less to buy a puppy from the same lines as the bitch you have. Also join us so we can offer you help, breeding a bitch can be difficult and very fraught so join us and get support and advice to cut the risks to the bitch and pups to the minimum

How old is she? What are her hip- and elbow-scores? Were her eye-tests satisfactory?  If you don't know the answer to any of these questions, then you do not yet have enough knowledge to breed a litter, and have a lot more homework to do first. (And as soon as she has a litter, you will become 'a breeder'.)

You should not advertise for a stud ,if your breeder can't help you should do your homework and research which stud is most suitable for your bitch. This has nothing to do with location or costs but which male, when combined with your bitch will produce the best puppies. You then approach the stud dogs owners and if the consider your bitch is suitable they will make arrangements for you.Anything less(after health tests as said by the other posters) is just breeding for money....not the good of the breed.
Have you also considered that you are responsible for these pups for the whole of their lives. If one is unwanted at 6 months old because it is destructive and not house trained it is down to you to take this pup back and deal with it....can you do this?
