Hi, my bitch successfully whelped her first litter last week Mum and 5 babies doing well.  Question is, how soon can Mum go for walks (she is desperate to get out with the other 2) and what precautions (disinfectants etc) do people use before letting her back with the pups?
Thanks for any advice, Mary

I took my bitches out for short walks as soon as they wanted to (they were dragged out into the garden several times a day before then). It was usually round about day 4 that they would turn up at the front door when I was putting the leads on the other dogs. I just took them out and then let them run back to the pups straight away when we got home. No disinfecting or anything like that, I'm afraid - and I never had any health problems over 25 years of breeding.

I let my bitch decide when she wanted to come out with us.  The first time she went out (probably day 2 or 3) she was so funny as she was half way around the field and she must have remembered she had pups so ran back home!
