I'm staying in with a bottle of wine and a DVD tonight, but have got no idea what good DVD's are out at the moment, anyone got any tips please? :)

Depends on what floats your boat really! Do you prefer omantic? comedys? Thrillers?
I watched "A Beautiful Mind" the other night, it's not particularly new, but I thought it was a fantastic film.

I've seen A Beautiful Mind, it's so sad. :(
I'm open to any suggestions, I don't really like slapstick comedy, but apart from that anything :D

Mystic River is a good film and now on DVD.  But if you want a comedy I'm afraid I can't help you, haven't seen a decent comedy in ages (not a new one anyway)  I'm doing the same tonight (bottle of wine) but watching Friends and Will & Grace on Channel 4.  Enjoy.

A friend said that was really good and I like Sean Penn, so that is definitely a contender! :)
Thought about Lost in Translation or COld Mountain but heard mixed stuff about both of them.  But Cold Mountain would give me the chance to look at Jude Law :D

Mystic Rivers Good but also with Sean Penn we watched ''I am Sam '' Brilliant film - had us laughing and crying at the same time ;)

If you want a bit of eye candy what about Pirates of the Carribbean? Jonny Depp at his best, really good action film.

'Life and times of David Gayle' not sure if thats the right title but thats a good one I think its with Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslet.

I liked Mystic River.  Think Lost In Translation is possibly the dullest film I've ever watched in my life ;) - people either love it hate it, but can't imagine why anyone would love it LOL.

Cold Mountain's meant to be great.

Have you seen Pay It Forward?

....Marina's right...Cold Mountain is very good. It was the first film in quiet a while that managed to keep my attention. *find it hard to sit through a film - too many ants in my pants*

In America - typical 'curl-up-on-sofa-with-wine' film, I really enjoyed it.

If you have  Sky then there is a good film on Movies 6 at 8.30. Its called Enough and has Jennifer Lopez in it, this did put me off(she likes her real fur)but it is actually really good. The Ring is also on, have seen the original and it's not quite as scary as Ring but still good if you like horror that is!

The Last Samurai is excellent.  I was really sceptical on this one but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it has Tom Cruise in if you like him :)

Have just watched Peter Kaye live from Blackpool Tower- Brilliant! Great if you want a good laugh.

Universal Soldier for eye candy Jean Claude Van Dam, never seen him look so h*rny as in this film.
Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets is both funny and poignant, same with Calender Girls.

I love As Good as It Gets and Calendar Girls.  At the moment I'm totally hooked on Starsky and Hutch, the original series not the film out last year.  I've bought both of the dvd's that are out!!  Really fancy Paul Michael Glaser for some reason and years ago I had something for John Ritter who is in one of the episodes so I love it !!

I think that I have the daft sick sense of humour that was in the Starsky and Hutch programmes.  I'm way too young to of seen it when it was on TV, well, just about :d

we have been hiring a lot of films lately, 'monster' and 'a song for a raggy boy' are the good ones that spring to mind, oh and 'mona lisa smile'

I loved Starsky and Hutch the first time around (unfortunately I am old enough to remember).  I was a Hutch girl though :)
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 24.08.04 21:21 UTC
Oh Sandrah I don't know !!   Look at David Soul now, what a waste !!  PMG still looks quite good even after all he's goine through in his life.  I think some of the programmes are hilarious (bad spelling again)  but it's mixed with some really good story lines too.

I really do think that I was born in the wrong era, I can't stand any of the programmes of today, nor most of the music of today, I think that I should of been born in the 50's or 60's not the early 70's as everything I enjoy is around the 70's time.

God I sound like an old woman, I really do need to get out more and stop stayig in with my dogs :d
- By Harriet [gb] Date 24.08.04 21:37 UTC
Well you should feel right at home then since we're having a 50's 60's and 70's fashion revival. When I take my daughter into New Look we're in our eye holes! First 'wet look' coats & knee length boots, then flares (never thought I'd EVER wear those again) Now smock tops are coming back in. Just loving it! :D
So long as the 80's shoulder pads don't rear their heads again.

Back on track! DVD's- watched 'About A Boy' last night- very funny! Hugh Grant seems to play the same character in just about every film he's in but he does it so damn well. Love him. :P
