Topic Dog Boards / General / How old is GSD fully grown?
- By Graham_T [gb] Date 24.08.04 17:52 UTC
I have a male GSD that is 10 and a half months old and am just wondering when he will be fully grown both in height and width.

As with most breeds would depend on the lines he is bred from. The GSD I had was finished height wise at about 12 months but didn't finish filling out till he was about 2 1/2

My Labs never finish height even until two years old and I've seen Flatcoats still growing as they approach 3!

Best wishes, John

Hi,

All my GSD's finished growing height wise, by about 12 months, although 1 bitch finished when she was 10 months. They all fill out at their own pace and this also depends on food intake and excercise. But as was said, it does depend on the lines they come from, its always a good idea to look at mum & dad too, although this is not always indicative :)

As others have said, it depends on the lines.  A GSD is normally fully developed in height, length and width by the time it is 18 months old.  However they do not really look "mature" and fully muscled until they are anywhere between two and three years old.
