my daughter is going to get a cross german shepard with and italian collie dog but when I looked I cant find one does anyone have any ideas
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 24.08.04 17:45 UTC
I can't find any reference to Italian Collie or Italian Sheepdog anywhere I'm afraid. Italian Coarse-haired Pointer, Greyhound, Hound, Pointer, Pomeranian, or Spinone, yes, but that's all.

thats about what I came up with I am wondering if they didnt miss hear and its an Anatolian Shepard if so I think they may get more than they bargined for
- By maglaura [gb] Date 24.08.04 21:13 UTC
well they got it she is cute but shes going to be a big dog I just hope they really know what they have let themselves in for I did try to tell them but kids never listen

Italian Sheepdog is a name sometimes used of the Maremma - but it is no way a Collie! And I would be surprised to hear of them being cross bred - at least if the poster is in the UK.

yep we are in the uk and this dog is supposed to be cross german shepard with an italian collie its a cute puppy but I am not sure they have got what they think they have I tried to tell them but well what can you do they are sure its like our border collie I have tried to tell them they should have made sure what she was but I seem to be talking to myself
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 25.08.04 13:34 UTC
I would guess it's going to be huge. Waaayyyy bigger than your BC.
- By maglaura [gb] Date 25.08.04 13:38 UTC
yep you should see the size of it now and its only 6 weeks I think they where to young to leave mum but the owner was happy for it to go looks healthy enough but it is huge looks like a big bear dont know how they think they are going to manage it because they also have a new baby and it cant come round here as my dog has taken a big dislike to it
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 25.08.04 13:38 UTC
Not a promising situation. :(
- By maglaura [gb] Date 25.08.04 13:40 UTC
no I know I tried to talk them out of it especially as they also live in a flat but they just wouldnt see sense I just hope the poor wee thing doesnt end up the one hurt in all this

Do you know whereabouts have they got it from? Do you know whether the "Italian collie" is the father or mother? If it does have Maremma in it might be possible to trace it - there aren't that many in the country! If it is that cross it will be at least as big as a GSD and may have stronger than average guarding tendencies. Is the puppy male or female?

Janet
edit - sorry just reread thread and see she is a female!
- By maglaura [gb] Date 25.08.04 13:50 UTC
hi they got her from a woman in southend the mother was a cross german shepard with this italian collie (still not sure what that part is) dad was a full german shepard thats all they know
- By becketts [gb] Date 25.08.04 14:34 UTC
Ah - so it may be 3/4 GSD? Will be big then even if it is a herding type collie in there too! Don't know of any Maremmas down that way - certainly noone breeding in that area.

Hope the pup works out OK though it does sound like they haven't thought it all through....

they definatly didnt think it through she found the number in the paper yesterday afternoon and they picked it up yesterday evening I did try to talk her out of it but she is very strong willed and never takes advice from anyone

Fingers crossed all will be well. Hopefully the pup will be a gem, and they'll be naturals with dogs, and there'll be no problems. It happens. The outlooks not bright, though.

could be a normal collie that lived in italy?
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 26.08.04 11:28 UTC
That's very potent if he impregnated a bitch in Southend, but I have heard stories about the Italian men. :D

- By maglaura [gb] Date 22.10.04 15:04 UTC
Well I am sorry to say I was right they got the poor wee puppy who is just gorgeous and now they have had enough and the poor wee thing is being passed on luckily my son is taking her he already has a staffy X and the dogs get on. I can honestly say I am ashamed of my daughter and her fella they expected to much from that poor wee pup and I am glad she is getting a new home
