Without EVER being wormed with chemical wormers.
Got the fecal result tests back from vets this afternoon & all 5 samples out of 10 are negative, all worm free. Exact words from vet "nothing to worry about, extremely rare for this to happen (I`m sure I`ve heard that word before!) but no evidence of worms in any of fecal samples. He needs to talk to me face to face to explain tests he did/tested for, but tests were for several worm types. He wasn`t that surprised either because he`s tested my dogs over the past 3yrs & all have always been negative. He seems as bemused as I am :D :D :D
My dogs & pups got gold medals in the health stakes today & I`m delighted :D

Christine that's fantastic, how on earth have you managed it?? (me, being a bit thick here perhaps ) Do you feed raw food diet? or are you giving some non-chemical wormer? I'd love to try this myself as I hate giving them chemicals. I'm always surprised that my vet is impressed with the condition of my dog and cats - surely if they are fed properly and exercised properly they should be in fantastic condition, its not that surprising is it??

You can get a homeopathic / herbal wormer called Four Seasons. I have been using it for a year now and am much happier than using chemical wormers. All dogs are fine and its much easier to give. I give it on a small piece of bread. You do have to use it for two consecutive days every month as it works as a preventative, but it works out much cheaper than panacur, drontal etc.

Hi,
Where do you get the herbal wormer Four Seasons from? As I hate using chemical wormers, Panacur always gives one of my dogs the squits for a few days. Mine are due for worming now so I would appreciate knowing where I could get the homeopathic one from :)
On the same subject, how do dogs get worms? I have been told many different reasons over the years from vets and breeders and still am not sure. One being that fleas cause worms, they pick it up from other infested dogs, etc. I always feed raw garlic to my dogs to deter the fleas as they don't like the smell that is emitted on the skin and so far it has worked, both dogs have been flea free for ages. I also use Frontline when the need occurs.
Any other advice on worms would be most welcome :)
thank you

Christine,
Great results. One difference I find between the U.S. and the U.K. is that in the U.S. my vet always did fecal exams to test for worms. Maybe it's changed now, but 8 years ago vets did not simply hand out worming tablets "just in case." In over 15 years only twice were there any signs of worms - and I fed the type of dry complete that I would not even feed for free now. I would rather bring in poo samples than use worming tablets - but my vet never offered the option here in the U.K.

Yes they are fed a raw diet. Vet says it`s *extemely rare*, he`s the same one who`s done all their testing, first dam & now her pups! When their dam was ill as a pup with parvo he did testing for worms without me even asking to see if it she did have them & it was exacerbating her illness but she was negative then as an 11wk old pup, since then he tested her a few times 7 she`s always been negative, as have all my other dogs & now her pups as well! Pumpkin seed is a known anti parasitic & I`ve always given fresh pupkin with skin & seeds regularly as we have it all year round here. They`ve also always had fresh garlic almost daily but apart from that just a varied diet, no chemicals & no vaccines either.
