Hello

We use the local Agricultural college, and there costs are between £10 & £15.  Maybe there is somewhere like it in your area. When we couldn't get an appointment at the college we went to a farmer who travels scanning sheep.  He was spot on.
£75 sounds expensive.
Sorry I can't help you with anyone in your area, I'm in Scotland.
Regards
Joan

Just had my cocker scanned once by my vet in Sussex at £60 and then 2 weeks later by a pregnancy testing scanning (also a farmer who scans sheep etc) for £15 and she told me that she was one of the first people to start scanning dogs in 1984 and she's in Ashford, Kent and really easy to find.

Hi Terri

Hope all goes well.  I never scan my dogs but of course I've not taken the big risk that you have :d  I've got absolutely everything crossed for you and your girl.  Carina looks as though she's definitely preggers, she's 4 weeks today and absolutely massive.

Good luck and keep us up to date.

Hi Terri

Hope you get more this time!  Who did you use?

If it ever helps, I have learnt to do cervical smears to try to pinpoint ovulation (bit late this time!!)

Hi jo
sorry for hyjackijng the thread but where did you learn to do the smears? we have used them over the last couple of years with great sucsess but it envolves me traveling a 60 mile round trip to get them done it would be excellent to learn myself.:)

Hi Kate

First, I twisted my husband's arm to get me a microscope, and my son's to get me some Leishmann's stain.  Actually, Diff-Fix is quicker, but much more expensive.

Then I searched the internet for sites, and found this site probably the most useful

Good clear pictures.

If you e-mail me privately I can give you the technique

Jo,

That link didn't work. Can you check and make sure it's correct?
- By JoFlatcoat (Moderator) [gb] Date 10.08.04 14:25 UTC
Yes, I cut and pasted it and it worked for me.     There are some others - I'll try to e-mail you

Kate,

You can buy the microscope, with the kit and a basic book all as a complete kit, with all the dyes, swabs etc from Brunel. We had a thread going a while ago about it.
http://www.brunelmicroscopes.co.uk/compound.html

I think the whole kit delivered was £160. There is an instruction booklet to tell you how to do the tests etc.

I was quite impressed how it all worked.
