Am I am personally new to dogs having never been a dog lover. My wife on the other hand is a major dog lover and has had a Westie for 13 years. It was living with her parents and after little persuasion we now have the 13 yr old Westie and he is adorable. I have discovered that he is a wonderful little dog and am begining to love his little ways.

Anyway, on Saturday we went to DogsRus in Manchester to buy him a little toy. Whilst we were there we decided to have a look at the puppies. First off, I dont believe they are meant to smell like they did. Secondly while we looking around there were quite a few rooms (if thats what they call them) with dogs on their own in them walking round looking bored out of their heads. Is this normal ? There was one room that angered me, and I want to do something about it, but am unsure as to how to go about it. One room had 5 little white Westies that were lying in a pile on top of each other. They wernt moving, and were all covered in dust. They didnt look white enough to be healthy. I instantly said they look unwell, and one looked unconcious, although I discovered I was wrong when it finally moved. This surely is not right and I feel something should be done to stop these poor little animals being treated like this. I also heard that if the dogs have not been bought by the time they are a certain age, then they are put down. Is this the case?. If so, then a letter is going to be winging its way to the RSPCA to stop this.

Can anyone help me or shed any light on this matter. Am I right in what I am saying.

Thanks

David

IF you dont think that the pups looked like they are being well looked after, Ring the R.S.P.C.A it wont hurt for them to have a look.

I believe this store is well known to the local council and RSPCA inspectors - sadly most of what they do is infact still legal :(  I hope you took your money else where, as this is currently the only way to close down places like this :(

Hope you never buy anything from them again, other places sell toys, we can't say what we really think on this open forum but I would rather not have a dog than have one from places like that. Often wonder what happens to stock surplus to requirements or pups that don't sell, does any body know?

I was in Petland today and couldn't believe all the pups in the window, alot of them being Boston Pug crosses ...But I do have to say they were all clean, all the animal cages in their are clean and well fed which is nice to see....I was a lil discusted with the Macaw they had, he was very pretty but they obviously just hosed him down (probably a bath) but the lil guy was cold. A lady that worked their came walking up and I said he looks to be very cold (he was shivering) and she said he does and asked him to hop up and took him to the back. Shouldn't have him by an open door plus being wet....I don't agree with their puppies/kittens in the window but they do care for their animals....

There is a Pet store (2 of the same) here and the animals are very dirty, unkept cages, laying in own feces/waist. It is very discusting I have never seen such a dirty place in my life. I have called the humane society to see what can be done. On the news they talk about petting farms that people have gotten ecoli (sp) because the animals may lay in own waste and people petting (especially children) and don't wash right away and they get sick....Now I know ok you gotta wash, well couldn't this pet store be doing the same thing? I'm just very discusted and I do hope they get shut down, I feel very sorry for the animals, nothing worse then seeing a bird cage covered, plastered all over with poo (I know birds are messy I have two but no need for that, other pet stores are not like that), rabbits in cages where poo is all over, ferrets in aquariums and the poo is stacked so high on the sides it is just gross.

I'll stop now cause I'm fuming...Yes if you think something does not look right please check into it and hopefully something can be done :)
