After alot of consideration i have decided to breed from my boxer bitch. I have been researching into breeding and want to have all the right tests done on my boxer before i consider breeding from her. I would like to have her Heart tested but i have spoke to my vet but he has been unable to advise me about this. I have spoke to other vets but they too are unable to help me. I live in South East London and would be very grateful if anyone has any advice.

Go to the Kennel Club website www.the-kennel-club.org.uk  then go to breed standards, to working group then, Boxer. At the bottom of the page will be a list of breed clubs, these will advise about where to find heart testing.

Well done for looking into this so thoroughly,

Dawn R.

as far as i am aware the vets do the heart score on boxers.they are given a grade and the lower the better.i always thought it was carried out by a vet the same as hips etc for other breeds.
i know they can scan and do egc etc on boxers because i had a girl who had both congenital deffect that the boxers get.she was always having checks for her heart conditions.
but like nursey has said it is good to know people who breed boxers take the heart problems seriously.my girl was one of the pups in a litter that should not have happened and she had to live with it all her life. we lost the battle in the end at just over 9 years because of her heart.

London & Home Counties Boxer Club have a cardiologist present at their Limited and Open Shows who has the specific qualification to grade your bitch.  Their Limited Show is in February - if you can wait that long.

There are vets that are recommended for the stethoscopic examination
of Boxers for the Boxer heart-testing. Be aware that these vets have to charge more than
the normal show price for testing your dog as they are using the veterinary practise's own time
and appointments etc, show price testing for Boxers is £7.50 per dog.
To go to the veterinary clinic willl probably cost £25-45 per dog depending on area etc.
To be considered clear for breeding purposes  dogs and bitches must grade either 0 (best score)
or 1.

The following reccommended vets appear in the Boxer heart-testing booklet published.
I produce them in no particular order (also hope that I haven't broken any list rules by
putting them up)

Mr A Boswood - Queen Mother Hospital, Royal Vet College, North Mimms Hatfield Herts
Tel - 01707-662255

Dr M Reading - The Garden Veterinary Grp, East Finchley, London
Tel - 0208-4442644

Guessing that these two would probably be your closest?

Mr M R Oakley
Pine Valley Vet Clinic, Crowthorne, Berks

Mr J Sauvage
Cranbrook, Kent
