Topic Dog Boards / Health / poorly pup

my pup is now about 5 months old, and she has had diarrohea for 3 days, (squirty out kind-sorry to be so graphic) shes fine in herself but todya when i took her for her walk, she had fresh blood in it, about a tablespoon size amount
I am really worried about her, but am i worried about nothing, because she is fine in herself and never really has had properly formed stools for more then a day or so.
I am taking her to a dog show tomorrow so she can get use to it and for more socialisation, not putting her in a class as too young-would it be wiser not to take her?
thanx

Definitely leave her behind. If she's poorly ahe might be infectious, and nobody wants their dog made ill. What sort of show is it anyway? If it's a KC-run show unentered dogs aren't allowed in anyway.

its a companion dog show, run at a village near by, i thought i would be allowed to take her to that-not thats shes poorly now
but wouldnt i of been allowed?

A companion show has different rules, that aren't as strict. But I still wouldn't take her if she has an upset stomach. It's not fair on her or the other dogs. If she is losing blood as you say she could possibly be infectious.

do you think i should take her to the vets then, or leave it until tues when she is spayed?

And what if she squits on the show ground, you will not be able to clean it up and every dog that passes will be in danger of becoming infected.

Forget about taking her to a dog show of any description - More to the point, why on earth aren't you taking her to a vet??????

Keisha - just saw your post re taking her to be spayed.

a) she obviously has a problem that needs addressed if she is passing such loose and bloody motions
b) if her toilet has always been loose since you got her that needs investigating too
c) when her other health disorders have been addressed, she should be allowed to mature in mind and body before being neutered - so at least have one season.

Would doubt the vet will spay her why she is ill, spaying is a major operation.

shes had runny poos nearly everyday since ive had her, not really really runny but not proper ones like all my other dogs, shes been wormed and the vet said last time that she would be ok if she was ok in herself. which she is at the moment.
she blood in it only happened this afternnon, so some people say wait and see how they are in the morning and some others say take them now, so i dont know wot 2 do
ive straved her 4 24 hours but it doesnt seem 2 have worked, but it doesnt normally.
ive read posts about collitus, could this be what she has?

Yes, I would think it is, but that just means inflamed colon it is what is causing it that is important.

Have you tried changing the food (gradually of course) It could be that the food does not agree with her, and giving it to her for so long has irritated her stomach. My old girl will eat anything, even if you chop and change her diet every day (not that I do that, only when I used to run out of their regular food and cant get to get it straight away!), but my young boy, has to have the same food all the time. (So have to make sure without fail that I get a constant supply of food!!!!!) And some foods dont agree with either of them. So I steer clear. (keep them on it for a while and my young boy just will not get solid.
Now found a food that agrees with both of them and stick with it. (just ordered 14 sacks for me and a mate!!!!!)
Lea :)
