My x bred terrier pet dog is now 9 months old, he lives with my lab x spayed bitch,
he is at the age where he finds her sexually interesting.
I have never owned a male before, only bitches. He smells more than the bitches
is this normal in a male ?.
What are the pros and cons on having a pet dog castrated. Jill.

Male dogs certainly seem to smell stronger than females. He is now entering the adolescent phase when his hormone levels are about three times higher than they will be when he is mature.. I have never had a dog castrated (I've always kept them entire) s have no personal experience, but it's not something to undertake lightly, and preferably not before he is fully mature.

Aha, thanks Jeangenie.
I thought it was just the fact I had a long haired dog, and always had short haired, not both combined.
Beano gets a bath every week to two weeks, depending on how he smells/where he has been!!!!!!!!!!! Where as Gemma(short haired Rottie cross) gets a bath only when the weather is nice and I have chance to grab her!!!!!!!!!!!!! about once every 3 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lea :)
(Really should get the needle and thread out to sew name tags onto school clothes!!!!!!!)
