Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / keeping rabbits and dogs?

Hi, I have two large (15lb), free range rabbits and I am thinking about buying a puppy. I would like a small breed and considering either an affenpinscher or a Jack Russell but I am worried about keeping terriers with rabbits. Can anyone advise on this or share their experiences with me? Is there another small breed that is known to be passive around small animals or should I give the whole idea a miss?!

All help and advice would be appreciated

We have 2 foster bunnies and a pet rat that live with a terrier/hound cross and a GSD without problems.
My dogs weren't bought up with withe rabbits, they arrived last autumn on temp foster and have become permanent residence just not made official yet.

My parents have a lurcher who has grown up with rabbits and they are all fine together, I wouldnt recommend leaving them alone together though even if a dog is only playing it can still be fatal.

I have 3 Border Terriers and 2 of them were bought up with Rabbits and were fine.  I had a 2yr gap of no Bunnies and in that time I had another Border.  I had another hare about 3mths ago and now the 2 that have been used to Bunnies are ok, but the bitch would kill him in a flash!  There is no way she will accept him.  I think a puppy will be ok, but wouldn't chance an adult.

a few years ago, we had a rabbit, then we added a collie/lab and then a few months later we added a cat.  both dog and cat were adults when we got them and they were all fine together.  the rabbit was not an inside 1 but when left out in the garden (not in a run but lose) all 3 were fine and i even got a pic of the 3 of them lying (not right by each other) in the sun

i would never trust my lot with 1 now but would if it was an adult rabbit and a pup
