what is the most unusual animal you have got/kept?
other half had boa's before i met him in his bedroom, glad i never met them       ;-)
i have kept all the normal but the most unusual for me would be 2 lizards, a gecko and a skink if you know what they are.
son wants a spider when hes older..........no way not in this house! i hate them and trying to get tob to kill on sight.
if he ever got round me which he won't but if it got out it would be at rainbow bridge,or i would be out untill it was found.

Well i wouldnt say more unusual, i just dont see many around anymore, i own two Terrapins....Ronnie and Reggie, i have had them as babies they are now 15 years old, and i wouldnt be without them...i love watching their heads surface in their aquarium when they are basking on the rocks under the water, still find them facinating to watch...husband keeps saying hes going to turn them into ashtrays and send them as a present to my mother

- By Nikki B [gb] Date 18.08.04 00:12 UTC

I used to keep newts and tadpoles, collected from the canal/river, near where we lived when I was a little girl. (Much to my mums dismay)
I remember one newt escaped and by the time we found it in the bedroom, it had all dried up!
Son came home a few years ago with a tarantula but it only lasted one night cos I was too afraid to go to bed or even upstairs where it was in his bedroom. I made him get rid of it pronto!! Then he wanted a lizard but I said no again. He settled on a mouse instead :D
- By marie [in] Date 18.08.04 00:09 UTC
lizards are easy honest. son had mice and rats too. i must be mad but a big NO to spiders of any kind.

I had a tropical crab called Houdini,on account of the fact he was forever escaping from his tank and we would find him in the weirdest of places. We never found out how he escaped although we would sit and watch the tank for ages :D
Luckily he lived to a 'ripe old age' for a crab.We have also had all the usual pets, hamsters, gerbils, birds ( not keen on caged birds, they were left to us after someone died  ),oh and dogs of course :D

I had a tropical crab once called Sid, he was forever escaping and after one particular bid for freedom he was found dead by the front door (he had made it from my bedroom and down the stairs  )

My most unusual pet now is Frank my king snake who isnt especially unusual but used to freak people out when I lived at home and kept him in my bedroom :D :D  now I have moved I keep him in my living room and people come round and spend ages peering into his vivarium trying to see whats in there because he love to hide under his foilage then poke his little head out to surprise people :D :D

- By Rachel20 [gb] Date 18.08.04 10:29 UTC
Stick insects - bought from the school tuck shop when I was a little girl :)  Something very unhygenic and wrong about that!
They were the most boring and rubbish pets ever, and then they bred and we had thousands, imagine my Mum's pleasure :D

I've got a jird.

That just sounds unusual but you don't see many around. She's a bit like a gerbil but bigger - almost as big as a rat.

I've also got a man eating cat called Beaker (she just looks like a cute moggy but will have a go at anything that moves - dog included).

I kept a Blue tit as a child. It was caught by the cat and its wing was badly damaged and couldn't fly.He lived in captivity for many many months before passing away.
Archer
had one of those tropical frogs last year...bought a white one and a brown one.Brown one was fine(rehomed when got rid of the fish tank) but the white one grew, and grew and grew.Ended up being bigger than all the fish etc (about 4 inches long)and went to live in a tank with another white one!

I went to a pet trade fair when I worked at a pet shop grooming palour, and came back with some tree crabs, and a various selection of  shells, as they change shell's, as they grow out of one shell they move into another, they where as captivating as watching paint dry, needless to say my children soon lost interest.
- By luvly [gb] Date 27.08.04 23:00 UTC
A Leopard geko lizard .called lizzy (lol :P ) my brother bought her lost interest and she was passed to me . I do feel sorry for lizards they shouldent be kept in glass box's yes boring to watch her hightlight must have been her sheading her skin. she was in fab condition but she was passed on to a lizzard collector where he could give her bigger housing and i mean large :d  . my heart wasent in looking after her as she got older she used to bite and id have her hanging off my finger as you lizard owners know there teeth are more then a little sharpe :D so i was reluctant to put my hand in after a while . this bloke dident seem to mind anyway and he still has her :) she has a freind in with her and seems happy
- By marie [in] Date 28.08.04 10:53 UTC
gecko's don't have teeth.they eat food by crushing it.some lizard have teeth at the back of the jaw to help hold the food and pass it down the throat.
- By luvly [gb] Date 28.08.04 11:42 UTC
mabe it was a different lizzard this one did take a chunk out of my finger so i asume it was a bite
