
Hi Jackie and guest, just to clarify the point about health tests and pugs - we dont actually have any official health tests for the breed in the UK. There is some ongoing research into the main problem (Hemivaertaebae) and dogs can be x-rayed for this, but there is not yet a central registry, nor is it recorded on the KC records. Dr. Adreas Schemmel is currently undergoing a research programme into this, along with one of the Universities. On the other hand, in the USA they dont yet have official HV research, but they do hip score.
Main thing is you find a breeder who has an in depth knowledge of the breed, acknowledges the problem exists, and can let you know the history of their lines in relation to HV.
