I am trying to obtain a Pug for a loving family home.  I would like a fawn colour adult male or male puppy.  But I would consider anything at this moment!

I am not interested in breeding or KC papers, just looking for a family pet at a price that is not too over the top.

I am in Yorkshire, but I am willing to travel if the price is right.

Guest do not go for a unregistered pup, what you gain in a price saving you may well spend on vet fees. What ever you decide make sure your pup is bred from stock that is registered with full health records and if the breeder is not registering the litter or worse your particular pup make sure you are confident in the reason they give for not registering. But on no account buy a pup that is not from registered parents, the price you will need to pay is somewhere between £800 & £1100 so do not be tempted by the cheap pup, you will pay for it latter.

Hi Jackie and guest, just to clarify the point about health tests and pugs - we dont actually have any official health tests for the breed in the UK.  There is some ongoing research into the main problem (Hemivaertaebae) and dogs can be x-rayed for this, but there is not yet a central registry, nor is it recorded on the KC records.  Dr. Adreas Schemmel is currently  undergoing a research programme into this, along with one of the Universities.  On the other hand, in the USA they dont yet have official HV research, but they do hip score.

Main thing is you find a breeder who has an in depth knowledge of the breed, acknowledges the problem exists, and can let you know the history of their lines in relation to HV.

Hi Gwen did not mention health tests but any breeder worth their salt would know the background health records of the dogs they are breeding, wouldn't they. And one hopes would not be breeding from animals that had shown ill health themselves or the immediate ancestors or earlier progeny, but will do their best to make sure the pups they breed are as near perfect in health and conformation as it is possible to get.

Hi Jackie,  I wasn't meaning to criticise your post in  any way, just to clarify the points specifically to the pug - ie, there will probably not be "health records" in a positive sense, because of the current research status of the only serious health issue with the breed.  Of course, all responsible breeders will be aware of this condition, and of the status of the immediate family of their stock.  Some of the dubious breeders deny the existence of the problem,  and some are probably unaware of it, not caring about the welfare of the breed of the whole at all. I just wanted to make the guest aware of the actual condition, and give an idea of the questions to ask.
