We've got Westie who is just over a year old. Usually he goes to bed without any bother but he has been barking for the last hour in the kitchen. We've been down twice but haven't been down in the last 20mins however he has been barking non-syop for the past 1/2 an hr. He's been wormed and had hisd jabs today we don't know what to do,. PLEASE help!!

Hello I know you can't hear anything that might be bothering him but is there by any chance fireworks r something making a noise around you.? Dogs hearing is much better than ours. I doubt his barking will be anythng to do with having jabs but as he's been wormed does he want to go out? worming tablets can make a dog a little "loose"

Other than that you never know maybe someone is talking outside and you just don't know, but sure he will settle down soon.

Is he quiet when you are with him? and have you been fussing him more today as he's had jabs etc?

Kizzy barks at spider's and creepie crawlie's, not being rude but do you have any thing hiding in the corner. Cheers Viv

If you are sure all else is fine, try giving a little warmed milk to your dog before you go to bed and then ignore any barking as everytime you respond you are teaching your dog that he gets your attention if he barks.  The milk could have a claming effect just as it does with humans.  Also, in this warm, muggy weather, are you sure your dog is not too warm?  A small fan might help keep the air circulating better.

If your dog has been wormed and had his jabs all in the same day it sounds to me as if the onslaught of all of those chemicals is just not agreeing with him. He might calm down after a walk maybe(?)

Thanks for your advice. Tom barked all night and wouldn't settle anywhere. Took him to the vets this morning who said that his stomach was upset and that the worming would have made it worse; she said that he wouldn't have slept at all. She gave him a jab to calm him down and some tablets to take.
Thanks again!
