I would suggest telling people where you are located ;-)

In the meantime, this might help:

I spotted that too!

Doesn't seem much on this weekend.  That link is part of this site by the way, I just didn't know how to get there other than via my trusty bookmark!

Are you looking to visit big shows (championship/open) or informal shows?  If the latter, try looking in your local paper - somewhere round where all the boot fairs etc are listed.  Or I think the dog mags usually have all the shows listed - hopfully someone will come on and tell you what they are called, my WHSmiths have never had them so I haven't read them myself, and never remember what they are called...

Hi Louise,

I dont think we have any open shows up here in the NE this weekend, but there are some coming up - on Saturday 4th September there is Wolsingham Agricultural show, and on Sunday 12th Spetember is Stanhope Agricultural Show.  Both of these are lovely old fashioned country shows, and you will be able to take your own dog too, if you want to go and have a look around.  Then, on Sunday 19th September Gundog Day is on at Darlington championship Show,  this is the regions only all breed ch. show, and you will be able to see lots of GRs being exhibited, however, you wont be able to take your own dog, as only entered dogs are allowed.  Hope this helps

bye

I know of a companion show this Sunday, its in Seamer, near Stokesley. Check on the diary in a bit and I will put some more details of others. And theres the ones Gwen mentiones above, we are entered in all, including Darlo, our first champ show!

think i will give that a whirl thanks archer, can you enter your dog on the day or do you have to do it in advance, only coming to watch but to enter might be fun too
- By archer [gb] Date 20.08.04 18:21 UTC
Afraid not.Open and champ shows must be entered well in advance...by post or the internet(champ only)
The bolton show is held along side a weekend of other events....fairs,diplays etc all in Leverhulme park.
Normally at open and champ shows you can't take unentered dogs but being held in a park there are always a few people walking round with their dogs just on a day out.
If you've not been to a show before ..this is a large open show...about 550 etries last year  I think. However a champ show will have many thousands of dogs and is a much bigger event.
If you go along on sunday come and say hello.I will be there with my 3 elkhounds.

thank you emily and gwen, unfortunately my partner goes away with work on sunday so we wanted to do something the saturday before he goes, we have never been to any shows and have no idea what goes on, do you just turn up if you are spectating and can you take your dog just to watch
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 20.08.04 15:53 UTC
If you do a search on this site and put in key words like 'companion show' and 'open show' you should get more of an idea of what it's all about. You could also try 'championship shows', GRs have lots of their own breed champ shows where you'll see loads of them, everywhere and there be lots of people to ask questions to. If you sort it out in advance you could enter you dog not for competition(NFC)so he can come along and enjoy the day too!
