Good luck to everyone opening their exam results.  It's been a really stressfull day for all the poor parents at work awaiting the telephone call from children.  Mostly good results so far but one poor person still trying to track their child down.  I'm sticking with dogs!

Daughter got BBB - enough to get her into her second choice of course at Loughborough, but she needed ABB to get into her first choice (also at Loughborough). She isn't too bothered as she is still going to Loughborough - but we have to wait until 4pm to see which course she is going to do :)

That's my lot both off to Uni now, so my hair should stop getting any greyer for a few years yet ;) I wish :(

Anybody else had results today ?

The Boy got BCE - not good enough to secure his offer at Warwick (unless he resits), but okay for Cov. I knew he hadn't pulled his finger out far enough, but hey, you can only do so much nagging!

Congrats to your kids!
It seems ages ago that I was waiting for my results.  Didn't get what I needed to get into Liverpool, my first choice, but they accepted me anyway.  Ended up  changing my mind anyway :D
Imagine there will be lots of celebrating tonight though!

At the age they are, there is little you can do apart from be there to congratulate or pick up the pieces :)

Plus side is that hubby and I get to have the house to ourselves for once in 20 odd years :) Downside is that I will have to do all the weekday early dog walks - but it will be worth it for the peace and quiet :) Not many teenage girls who will walk the dogs every morning before school, whatever the weather - so I must not moan :) I expect that by December we will be only too pleased to have the noise back :D

JG is your son staying at home for Coventry ?

You won't believe this, Daisy (I can hardly believe it myself!) but he's phoned Warwick to tell them of his grades and they've still confirmed his place for 2005!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

He's thrilled and we're ecstatic, as Warwick is second only to Cambridge for the course he wants to do.

And no, he plans to live out. I'll miss him, but he and his chums are so big and noisy there's barely roomin the house for us as well!
:)

JG - you must be thrilled :) :) Excellent news ! We are still waiting to hear if they will take daughter for her 1st choice course - won't know until tomorrow now :( but she's happy anyway. Warwick is excellent, so your son must be really happy :) Is he out celebrating already :D Daughter has just come home from her 1st celebration and is going out again to a party tonight :)

Happy Days :)

Congratulations JG and Daisy :) What courses are they doing? Gothboy was pleasantly surprised by his Standard Grade Results on Tuesday he passed all 8, 5 Credit 2s and 3 General 3s. Hes really chuffed as he has ADD and finds organising course work and exams very hard. Now hes off  to 5 Year and Highers with confidence. :)

The Boy's taking a gap year then studying engineering - civil engineering I think.

Congratulations to all
Jeangenie - I read your posts and nearly thought it was my son you were talking about!  He got BCC, not enought to get to his first choice, Surrey, but ok for his second.  Anyway, after calling Surrey they said as his C's were only a few points below B grades they are still offering him the place.  So it was celebrations last night and will probably continue over the weekend!
Mine's doing Electonic Engineering

Lorelei

Sorry I don't understand the Scottish system :D Sounds excellent anyway :D

It's such a relief to get another hurdle over without any disasters isn't it :)

Good for Gothboy! To pass all your exams is an achievement anyway, but with an disadvantage like ADD on top he should feel doubly proud! It should have boosted his self-confidence no end!

This is all very strange. My daughter needed BCC to get into Nottingham to do Applied Biology. She only got CCE so was in despair when she got back home after getting her results. When we eventually got onto the UCAS website (lost password) we couldn't believe that she had been accepted. Didn't dare to celebrate until she phoned the uni to confirm. I put it down to fewer pupils doing science subjects at A level. Most of her friends got onto their courses despite lower results. The only exceptions were two students wanting to do popular courses at top universities. A friend told me some time ago about a little publicised experiment by some leading Universities to admit State School pupils with lower grades than they would normally accept. (She was miffed about this as her children went to private schools) Apparently they found that these students did better than private school children with higher grades. What does everyone else think about this ?
- By Daisy [gb] Date 21.08.04 10:21 UTC
It's probably true :) I think the reason why is that most children going to private schools do reasonably/very well, because the parents tend to motivate the children well - just because, to be able to afford to send the children there, they themselves have had to work hard in most cases. Also, the atmosphere in private schools is so much different to most state schools and children that might be easily led into not working at a state school, work better. So a higher percentage of children from private schools go to university. Not all of them have had to work as hard as some children from some state schools though. It does not mean that children from private schools do not work hard !! A lot do and achieve very high results ! Quite a few come from fairly ordinary homes where the parents are prepared to make the sacrifice to pay for their education or the child gets a scholarship. This is particularly true in areas where the state education is awful.
